Update for Garmin NUVI 660, version 3.2

too bad they dont add more feautres (even thought it's still good)

After the update I now have the Fodor's North America in the Travel Guide and in the Extras as a second directory above Custom POIs. It cannot be removed with POI loader.
All of the same info, just in 2 places now.

I previously read about folks experiencing GPS screen delays on their 660's while navigating that they attributed to upgrading from version 2.6 to 2.7.

Few questions:

1) Has anyone experienced those delays?
2) Is it better, worse or the same in version 3.2
3) If I did not upgrade from 2.6 to 2.7 can I upgrade directly from 2.6 to 3.2 or do I need to upgrade first to 2.7 an dthen to 3.2?

I do not like the new interface for traffic. It is not user friendly.

You click on traffic alerts and it cycles through the traffic, closest to you.

It would be more helpful if you can zoom out and look at the highways and click on the traffic sign to see what is happening.

I preferred the old alerts where a list was generated and you can click on the areas of interest.

What does the new interface do to help? Nothing in my opinion. After a week of experimentation I may complain to Garmin to revert.

Am I the only one unhappy with the supposed update?

i haven't yet uploaded the new software but can you explain the new traffic feature?

Don't upload it unless you know how to revert to the previous version.

I don't know if a reset will do it.

I am going to work to reverting to the older version.

Does anyone know if the new traffic interface will reroute you? I don't really care what it looks like, as long as it still reroutes me away from the tie-up.

I ask because it's nearing the time to re-up the subscription and if it doesn't function like the old interface it's useless.

Yes, it does the rerouting - also voice is a little bit more explicit - instead of traffic ahead - slow traffic in five miles - stalled car in two miles.
I actually think the new interface is better and probably safer - a picture tells a thousand words - instead of backing into someone while squinting at the screen trying to read what going on.

When viewing traffic problems, it is very difficult to see which traffic problem my Garmin 660 is referring to on the map. In Dallas, TX there is an extreme amount of information posted for traffic conditions, but it won't show me only the places construction is taking place. Bummer.

I just updated my nuvi 660 from version 2.70 to version 3.20. After the update the garmin updater asked if I want to update a list of items shch as the cars, trucks and several languages. Should I update everything in the list or only the Items which I may want to use?

just select what you have a need (or want) for. I didn't select all the language options. I did get some of the vehicles though.

I copied all the cars to my SD Card in the folder, Garmin, subfolder "vehicle" but for some reason they are not showing up as a choice like music or video are. Anyone have and idea?

I udated my software to 3.2 and tried the new traffic interface. When I pressed the traffic icon, i was shown a zoomed out map with all the traffic conditions in my area. First one was 12 miles away and as I scrolled through the screens, it listed them in order of distance. I CAN look at it through all levels of zoom and pick the specific one I want details on.

I like the new interface more than the old, but I don't live in the city, so I haven't had a lot of practical use yet.

but I think you need to copy the vehicle data to the Nuvi. Reading your post, it seems you are leaving that data on the SD card.

You are correct in that I am leaving the data on the SD card, I was hoping I would not have to put the cars data on the Nuvi, but I guess in this situation, you have to..
Too bad, I would have like to keep that info on the SD card like my pictures and music.

talkdj, I found that too, but then realized that there were no traffic incidents in the area. The icon would not do anything until an incident was loaded from the TMC.

I like the new interface, but that may be because I only recently purchased my Nuvi and didn't have time to get used to the old. Regardless I find it a bit easier as I prefer to see the broad overview of all the incidents. I especially like the updated announcements.

I found the same thing with the traffic updates, Nothing until the snowstorm hit, then the little sucker went wild, all kinds of things to report

I found it pretty useful during the storm. It provided good info on what was going on around my area. Although I didn't have many other road options, it was still helpful.

I seem to recall that on the previous firmware version that traffic color codes would show up on the main map on all roads with incidents. Has anyone noticed that this doesn't happen with version 3.2? or does it only show when there is traffic on your route now.

Maybe I was just seeing things before...

I have seen color-coded roads on my map since updating to 3.20. So it must just be when there is data to download.

I guess I just haven't had any on-route.

They informed me yesterday they will be coming out with an update for the new DST rules soon
