It is a download for my c340 listed under software update.Do you have a link for that info?

Just wondering what the improvement is?I like the old Jill and Jack?

I dont think there is much of a change webupdater just says "Made compatibility changes for future garmin products"

I hooked the gps up to the computer and ran the web updater and it downloaded it as a update.

they show up on mine as updates also but in the changes section it just says the compatibility changes thingy. what ever that is is anyones guess?

I use jack cuz I can hear it better than the female voices. I did a little sim route i didnt notice any thing???

I will give it a try Wed and see if I notice anything different.Sometimes Jill does stumble on some streets.

I updated all the English speakers and auditioned a few yesterday for changes. Jill still stumbles on my local street names - I couldn't tell any difference. Karen is still the best TTS voice in my opinion.

the information come from that she is the same Karen? I'm not saying that isn't her, just wondered about the info. Maybe we could locate the others too.

I just got my GPS yesterday and I went to Garmin's website to add Jack's voice but for some reason i get an error message each time, so i just gave up...any suggestions?

What model did you get? Does it support TTS?

I will update mine.

You might want to list the steps you took to arrive at the error message...
downloaded webupdater program,then...etc.

including the model you got.

FWIW I was able to update my C340 an hour ago without a problem. I updated 6 of the voice files.

The update did work. It pronounced a street in my area which it had trouble with and got it right this time.

I've switched from Jill to Karen, and will try her for a while. But if she starts calling the state highways around here "Western Australia Highway," I'm switching back.

I downloaded the newer version. Curiosity prompted me to try Karen. Oh, Keith, don't get jealous, just her voice. After a short while, I switched back to Jack's voice. I don't care much for Jill's synthetic voice, especially her way of saying "Country Club Road" as "count-ree club and "Doris Ave." as "doe-reece" Ave. Jack's voice is bit more human like.

In an noisier environment like a car, it seems that a female like Jill cuts though the noise better than a male voice like Jack... what a curse we men must bear.

Sorry, I must go. I just downloaded the new Jack and Jill (up in these hills of Tennessee) with Karen and will report back after the test... Yes dear I coming!

... with Emily at the moment. I like her businesslike voice, and so far, better synthesis than Jill. I drive on a street regularly called "Kipling St" and Jill butchers it for some reason, while Emily and Karen handle it with no problem.

However, Karen and Emily have a habit of saying address numbers like 7254 as seven thousand, two hundred and fifty-four, rather than just saying seventy-two fifty-four like Jill does. Maybe it's just an Americanism, but I can't get used to the way the other girls do that.

I tried the Karen voice and really liked it (just love that Australian accent), but it kept pronouncing Dr (as in Drive) as "doctor". Has anyone else experienced this?

Yup.... need the 260 for TTS.

There are some other odd things like that. I put in the location of a car wash.... when Jill pilots me there she says that we are arriving at "Car Washington" I eliminated the space between the words and now she says it right.

As suspected, Karen pronounced "WA14 E" as "Western Australia fourteen east" instead of "Washington fourteen east."

I thought I had the latest update.

Oh, well....

I heard she is with Jack and they went up the hill to fetch a pail of water.

When Jack is supposed to say Connector he says Connecticut. Because the text is abbreviated as Conn

i tried Karen & other Brittish voices and they all sound good, until they pronounce a street "Dr" for drive as Doctor
that's too funny - Garmin needs to fix this

I see them as a reminder that we're dealing with technology, and it's less than perfect...and I get a good laugh when when Karen sends me down what the text on-screen says is "George M Mills Civic Parkway" by voicing "George the 1000th Mills civic parkway"...

My 340 GPS came with just Jill. Can I now download Jack and then Webupdate? What is the procedure for downloading Jack to my 340?

Whatever voices are available for use on your unit will show up in the second part of WebUpdater when you run it.

Not all voices are available for all units.

Are there programs available to create our own voices like we do with POI's, routes, splash screens, etc?

Just wondering.

Garmin units do not currently support custom/celebrity voices for TTS voices.

You can create Custom audio alerts for your Custom POIs which can be whatever MP3 you desire.

And some people have been successful at editing the non-TTS voice file. There are a few threads here about doing it.
