hi i am new GPS user nuvi750. i set my gps in pedestrian mode while walking and after i enter in to my car i forget to change to automobile. it navigate me all the way in local road and some time it ask me to enter in to one way. after a while i got upset and try to get into highway which i know very well, it ask to take the exit immediately. i got frustration and switched off the gps. then i realized my mistake and set back to automobile mode and navigate properly.
My concern is: Is there is any way to alert the gps user to change the mode.
when i entered in to a highway, it ask me to take the exit. but if it could tell me that with pedestrian mode i cant go in highway, then i will realized immediately.
only this comes by experience or is there is anyway to know this kind of things?
Pedestrian mode tells you to walk, not drive
There's no automatic way for it to remind you. But when it is in pedestrian mode, it should be telling you to "walk" to the next turn versus "drive" to the next turn.
As a reminder to yourself, why not change the vehicle icon when you change to pedestrian mode? That could serve as a visual reminder of what mode you have placed it in.
Thanks johnc, thats a good
Thanks johnc, thats a good idea. and i didnt listen the word "walk" and "drive" i hope.
Thanks a lot

Same thing happened to me
I was in CA on vacation and I had set my 250w in pedestrian mode because we were going to be walking in downtown LA. It turns out that I did not use it in pedestrian mode. When I got back in the car I failed to switch it back to car mode. I entered a destination and got on the freeway and my GPS kept telling me it was recalculating. I noticed that it was trying to stay off the freeway. After about 10 minutes (and a power down -- thinking that my GPS was displaying its first flaw) I realized I was still in pedestrian mode. I changed it back and it worked. I never saw the GPS tell me to "walk" because it was constantly recalculating. I was glad that the behavior was due to user error and not a software problem.

Walking icon
Anyone know of a good walking icon for garmin? Why in this day and age a computer is not smart enough to change an icon when I change a mode is beyond me.

Walk/Drive
This happened to me, I went to turn off the GPS but instead of pressing and holding the button for 3 sec., I just press it once and a prompt displayed asking if I wanted to switch to car mode.

Now, I know what to do if my GPS "misbehave". I should check if the mode is set correctly.
Regarding why computer can't get smarter, computer is just a piece of machinery. It will "only" do what you tell it to do and nothing else. It does not use reasoning and past experience to decide what to do next.
GPSr acting crazy
I always check the following and in most cases it is because of the settings...
1) What type of vehicle
2) Shortest vs Fastest route
3) Avoidances

No Nuvi(750) is not telling
No Nuvi(750) is not telling anything like "walk/drive". It just say generic words like continue, turn left, right...
I think we have to take precaution.below are some of the symptoms it will show in pedestrian mode
Symptoms:
1. will take little more time to calculate (some times more than 3 min)
2. will take u to turn in one way.

Are you using a TTS voice?
Are you using a voice with (TTS) at the end of the name? Those are the ones that actually say the street naames instead of just "turn in...". Maybe that's where the walk vs drive comes from. I have never tried the non-TTS voices.
I am using the TTS. it says
I am using the TTS. it says the street name also.
If i am in my parking lot or not near to the road, then it says 'drive to the nearest highlighted road' or some thing like that.
But if i am in the road, then it just says 'continue .4 miles' or whatever the instructions. it is not saying drive/walk.

Pedestrian mode
Hello All,
I just did a test with my Nuvi 660 by putting it into pedestrian mode. I picked a local location about 4 mile from my house and as soon as it was done calculating, it stated "Please walk to highlighted route." This might change from model to model but in the Nuvi 660, it lets you know that you in in pedestrian mode.
Flying with a GPS
Anyone know what happens in an airplane if you use a GPS in pedestrian mode? Do the airlines care if it is on? Does it give any indication of where you are if you zoom out? It seems it would be fun to track your position as you fly (Delta's Song had a TV screen that had that choice.)
Airplane Use
There is a long thread that I created awhile back about airplane use. There are also other threads here on it.

In the thread that asianfire linked, there is a link to a list of which airlines approve and disapprove of GPS use in flight.
You don't need to use the pedestrian mode. As long as you aren't on an active route, the GPS unit will show where you are irrespective of the roads.
You can be on an active
You can be on an active route if you use "off road" which is line of sight so it won't constantly recalculate.

This is interesting
On my nuvi 660 when I had forgotten to switch back to automobile mode from pedestrian mode my device did remind me that I was still on "pedestrian" as I drove a short distance. It did ask if I wanted to switch back to automobile mode but I can't remember if it gave me an option to switch from the main screen. Don't know why the 7xx and other models would not have this feature? Seems like it would be helpful and something Garmin should include in all models having pedestrian/automobile modes.

I just checked my 650 and
I just checked my 650 and when in the pedestrian mode it says walk the highlighted route and in the bicycle mode it says to ride the hightlighted route.

I think im rembering the numbers right any way after the flight the pilot told me it was right on..
