I'm thinking of what this will do for tourism in Arizona.

I have a feeling my Nuvi 350 will turn out to be a great investment!

Do you live there? If you

Do you live there? If you do, demand your state designate all the money be given away to a worthwhile charity such as Make A Wish Foundation. The public would still be just as safe, and this would remove any appearance of there being a conflict of interest.

The article says

The article says they will use the revenue to balance the state budget. rolleyes

I wish I could install some cameras in my driveway to pay for the credit card bills. mrgreen

In Texas

as of Sept 07, half of the cities profit has to be sent to the state for distribution to trauma centers. However, apparently the state officials did not complete their jobs. I forget, but they did not make the necessary arrangements, or bank accounts, or something so that the cities can send their required funds to. It's a big cluster.

But I will say this, although it is a nice thought, city/state giving money to anyone else is pretty much a billion to one chance. grin

In case you don't know...cities do not pay a cent for the cameras. It's all profit. They have a set contract amount per month, per camera. However, if the citations collected do not cover this amount, then the vendor writes it off and tries to compensate the following month. They, the city officials, just hope that you fall for their fallacy that they actually care about you. grin

Arizona Speed Cameras Expect $165 Million Annual Revenue. One-tenth of the Arizona state budget deficit will be covered by photo radar profit by 2010. Governor calls for HOV lane cameras.

This is what I mean about them (city/state officials) being more concerned with your cash than your saftety. Arizona is not the first to add this income to their budget expectations. They'll be more happy if you speed more than not speed. That means more cash for them and their pet projects.

Thankfully they outlawed speed cameras in Texas....for now. shock

Uhh...looks like CA does....

according to this article it is illegal but like Florida, they are still going to do it.

http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/16/1683.asp

Plus, ya'll have stop sign cameras!
http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/18/1846.asp

Then, unlike many of the other states, ya'll pay much more than $75 and have points on the license. OUCH!

With the $75 and no points on the license, they think that people are less likely to fight the citation. And they are probably right. But $300 plus points, I'm taking the time to pitch a fit. grin
