Windows Vista

How can I get Magellan Roadmate 300 software to work on Windows Vista. Magellan said they are not going to support Windows Vista. Makes you wonder how they can stay in business.

Windows Vista

Hi. Have you looked into compatibility mode? If the Magellan Roadmate 300 software is installed already, check the properties of the main executable(right click), go to the compatibility tab and select the mode desired. Ray

It doesn't surprise me to

It doesn't surprise me to read that. Magellan is a lame company maybe they will only support DOS and Win 3.11 lol oh and OS/2 smile

Magellan Applications

Did you tried to install the program? What kind of errors (if any) does it give you? What do you use the application for?
Most like the problem can be solved by running the program in compatability mode as noted before or there might be a work around like bringing in required dll or given the program special security permission. I only use POI editor for Maestro and it works fine. As for a negative comment from another user - I don't see how it is helpful here for the issue at hand at all. It is true that Magellan cut coners on support, but it also passes savings to its customers. I bought Maestro 4250 for $350, and I am sure that this price will drop even more this year. It is hard to impossible to find similar value for the money from Garmin right now. Of course if money is not a concern, that's the whole different story. Generally I found no need for customer service unless product is broken and needs to be exchanged which is less than 0.1% of the cases. Other than this I'd like to keep 40+% of the price in my pocket instead of paying it as premium upfront.

So your experience only proves the point that their support sucks because they gave him the WRONG answer. It is obviously wrong since it works for you.

As for the negative comment, it IS the truth,as you even agreed with.

Then you go on to represent as facts information that you have no way of knowing........unless you work for the company. In that case, you should divulge your connection. If not, you should be a little more careful how you represent your OPINIONS.

You misread my message. I have different kind of unit (Maestro 4250) that comes with different kind of software. However as a computer programmer I was trying to get more exact information about the nature of the problem to help to resolve it while pointing out that simply flaming about customer service isn't very helpful.

No, I do not work for Magellan, but as millions other Costco members I periodically receive Costco coupon booklet. In March Magellan Maestro 4250 will be available for $350-$100(coupon)=$250 that's a fact. Having used Maestro 4250 (you can find a good review on gpsmagazine.com) as well as some other GPS including Lowrance, and several Nuvis (just tried briefly) I concluded (and yes, of course this is my opinion) that Magellan offers great value for the money (I believe the best at the moment), which offsets problems with customer service. Statistics given on number of defective units was not for Magellan units, but for computer chips, but generally it holds true and was given to illustrate the point.
I think of myself as an open minded consumer and always look for better value and practical solutions, and do not believe in loyalty to any particular brand.

True that it won't help HIM any but it sure might help somebody else.

If I had known about Magellan's crappy update/support/repair reputation (well deserved, as it turns out) BEFORE I bought a 4000 on sale, I probably would have studied the "field" more carefully.

Did I get a good deal, price wise? Yes, for sure. Am I happy with the unit? Yes......as long as it keeps working.

I'd venture a guess that repair "horror stories" for Magellan outnumber those for Garmin AND Tomtom COMBINED by about 10 to 1. Not very good odds in my book.
