How do you create POI files from outlook address directory?

Ok, i thought my Garmin Nuvi would synch up with address book. well yeah it does for calling, however why can't i get the addresses to show up as POI/s. I figure someone would know how to do this

Nope, not directly.
Can you export your address book to a text file or a CSV?
If you can, then armed with that list of addresses, you can go about geocoding (assigning a latitude and longitude) for each one.
There are many tools available for this.

Then just add the lat and long to the address information and once properly formatted, you've got your Custom POI file.
