Do the maps in a slightly older version of MapSource have any better details/POIs than the built-in maps in a Nuvi 200?

.
No. If anything, older maps will have fewer or at least less accurate information.
Mapsource itself
Does not contain Detailed maps...until you load them. My mapsource was just the base map. I have Ver 7, 8, and 2008NT and 2008 without the NT and Every time I switch it is just like the Unit that has that map set.

I didn't receive any software other than the preloaded. It took all of 1 min. to call Garmin and have them send them to me. NO QUESTIONS ASKED! I'm in Canada but sure I was routed to the States for support. Hope this works for you.

I had it for my other Garmin products, and was just wondering if it had any greater detail. It doesn't, and that makes sense.
It's also useful as a GPX editing tool, but it doesn't manage most of the extension tags used by the newer products

It appears to me that
It appears to me that MAPSOURCE is the program that displays the maps that you own. When I go to MAPSOURCE I can choose for it to display the METROGUIDE North America v7 or METROGUIDE Europe v8 that I bought for my eTrex Legend or the City Navigator North America NT 2008 that came with my Nuvi 250W. (After asking Garmin to send the disc). So MAPSOURCE is only as current as the maps you own. BTW: The best info I have ever received on this site was the fact I can use my METROGUIDE Europe eTrex maps on my Nuvi by selecting the map area and tranfering the info.
Thank you everyone...
Thank you all for the information. I've not yet called the folks at Garmin, but it looks like I have a call to make tomorrow.
I'm also in Canada, so...
