Non technical cord questions

Anybody have any suggestions for doing cord "housekeeping"? I use the bean bag mount with the FM transmitter for traffic, and recently followed the advice of others at this forum and bought a cable to hook my nuvu 660 into my car's auxilliary jack. It seems like it takes me a few minutes to set everything up before I drive (plugging this plug in here, and that plug in there), and I'm also trying to find a neat way to keep the cords together while I'm driving because my dashboard is starting to look like a piece of medical equipment with all the cables dangling down.

Any suggestions?

Good one!

I'm interested to see how the rest of the people here deal with this. I have found myself wanting the FM traffic antenna for my Garmin nuvi 350. I already use it mostly on battery because I hate the cable mess. This has been one of the things keeping me away from the traffic doodad because it requires both the power and the additional plug for the antenna.

Thanks for posting!

what im able to do is tuck

what im able to do is tuck my cord into my dash. where my gps is located allows me to run my power cord inbetween my dash and a plastic cover. I dont the same thing with my xm satallite radio. I ran the antenna cable across the rubber seal that over laps from my windshield to the body of the truck i ran that around underneath following the rubber seal between my passanger door into my vehicle and then ran that cable under my floor mat.

another suggestion is getting some tape that matches the color of your dash and tape it down. but i have found the best way is to run my cables along seems and tuck them in whereever possible. becareful not to damage the cable or your vehicle when you do this.

My rig

We own a 2006 Nissan Altima and on the dash board there is a door where the factory GPS is to be installed, if you don't have one then the door opens to small storage box. I drilled a hole at the bottom corner of the box and ran the power cable to the cigarette lighter. Now the cable is permanently mounted and I have the option of leaving the Nuvi inside when parking the car and with the lid closed no tell tale sign of what is inside. So far I haven't had any reception problems with the unit sitting there with the lid open, it also helps cutting down the sun glare. With the cable attached the Nuvi sits in the box without any kind of mount.

Cables

When I have a device like this....radar detector etc.... I usually try to run the cable into a concealed place and then to a fuse box to find the ignition type connection....but my Garmin 200W seems to have some circuitry in it for the charger and I need to figure out how to integrate that into my install.

i try and stay away from

i try and stay away from messing around with my fuse box as much as possible. so i just bought a 1 to 3 12volt cigratte adapter and mounted it under my dash and that is the only wire that is exposed because its coming out of my cigrette lighter.
