TomTom Rider2 map version

Hi, new to the forum. Just got a TomTom Rider2 for christmas and am monkeying around with it. So far so good. Its "current application version" is 6.581

It seems to have the Can/USA map version 667.1378

I live in a town of almost 8,000 people, and there is not a single street listed on the unit.

There is another town 7 miles down the road, with a pop of around 9,000. It has all the streets, address's, POI's, etc in the unit.

Whats with that?

Is there a version available that would include my town? I suspect that as I travel across Canada I will run into this quite abit.

I will gladly buy a different version if thats what it takes.

Hoping someone can shed some light.

Cheers!

Congrats & welcome

If you don't find what you're looking for here, you can also try www.TomTomforums.com the un-official TomTom site! smile

Thanks Mate, I seen your post regarding that just after I registered on this site.

Have already posted on that one as well.

Cheers!

Web information

I like www.yournav.com a bit better than TomTomforums. It is a UK site, but they seem to have the most up to date information on what is happening with all GPS manufactures, not just TT.

MapQuest

Unfortunately for TomTom rider2, it is one of the unit that sports the MapQuest map instead of the TeleAtlas map found in most of PDA or PNA units. Although most of the people here swear by it since MapQuest is the default for Garmin as well, it is not updated as frequent as TeleAtlas so you may be stuck with it for a while since it is the latest for the 6 series (6.75 for TeleAtlas) and now TomTom moves to 7 series and the update for 6 series will definitely slow down.

It is actually very expansive compared to other units because of the weather seal design. If you do not ride bikes and you can exchange a much cheaper 7 series unit that even have map correction capability...

TeleAtlas and TomTom

I saw where TomTom bought TeleAtlas, so it should not be long until Canada has more roads on the map. Be patient.
