Unecessary icon "Cloud w/ 3 lightning bolts" won't go away!

I cannot get the 'Weather Advisory Warning' icon (Cloud w/ 3 lightning bolts) that is present on the map screen just below the + sign on the right side of the display to go away. I have a good MSN Direct reception 99% of the time. When I touch the icon, it says 'no data found' and when I exit that screen, the icon stays visible??? I've tried reseting my Nuvi 680 but the icon still is present? I don't know how to remove it. It's more of an annoyance than anything really wrong with the unit. Garmin Tech Support told me that the icon popped up one day when there happened to be a valid Weather Advisory Warning but the warning was no longer valid at the time I touched the lightning bolts icon which is why there is no data to advise me on...

Can anyone else tell me if they've experienced the same problem before and how can I get my Nuvi to return back to it's normal state (w/out the unecessary icon present)?

Help!!!

Ya Right!

Ya, Right! A Few Days!

It's been like for all most a year. The 680 has been on the market since early 07', and still no fix from Garmin. What seems to be their problem with getting a fix? The y seem to have all the time in the world to publish maps to SELL to us, but can't seem to find the time to fix a software flaw that effects the units that they want us to buy the new maps for. WTF!

I have return 3 Nuvi 680's

I have return 3 Nuvi 680's with exactly the same issue. It is very apparent that Garmin has no intention of fixing this issue, as it has indeed been almost a year and not a word from Garmin. Many people have reported this and still, some Garmin techs, seem unaware of this issue. My advise? Keep returning it for a new one (like I did) until you get one that does not have this affliction, because there will be no fix.

Possible fix

Several months ago, I posted with the same problem. I then started looking for a fix, and found some suggestions on the internet. One of them worked. Here is my previous post:

After I connected the 680 to my computer and opened the files, I found a folder marked "WX." I opened the folder and found 2 files. One was "MSalert.wdx." Given the name, I thought it might have something to do with the weather alert cloud icon, so just for the heck of it I deleted the file (I saved a copy to my hard drive) and reset the 680. I haven't had a problem since. I have had weather and traffic alerts (icons) pop up when bad weather or heavy traffic was present, and then disappear. You might want to try this. It's perfectly safe. I think the file is somehow recreated when another alert is issued, because after I received an alert, I checked the files and sure enough, there was a new MSalert.wdx file. Good luck.

Has anyone heard from Garmin

Has anyone heard from Garmin lately about this issue? Just curious.

weather alert

on my nuvi 760 i saw a few days ago the weather alert icon - i pressed on it and it opened 2 locations of where the flash flood alert was posted.
pressing either locations given opened a map showing the alert area.
later on the alert was cancelled and the icon was no longer there.
so it works on my Nuvi 760

MSN Traffic/weather receiver cord

I hate to sound the horribly cynical way I'm going to here, but it frankly does not surprise me that a Microsoft (MS) based device is causing so much difficulty.

I believe that Garmin can't do anything about it as it isn't their device and they are professional enough not to indict MS to the public.

I had to laugh at the suggestion that the MSN device should be "reset." Haven't we all done that with our computers a million times with MS operating systems?

I hope this gets fixed but I think the ire, questions, and feedback should be directed at MS not Garmin.

I'm in agreement with you about Microsoft...but

I had the same problem with 3 different Nuvi 680 units, but now that I have a Nuvi 770, I have not had the lightening bolt problem.... Could that mean that the problem could be the unit software or do you think its still a Mr Gate's issue? Food for thought. And before anyone points it out, YES I have a MSN receiver hooked up to my Nuvi 770:)))

Be well

This is not a MSN problem,

This is not a MSN problem, it happens with XM also.

Weather warnings provide no delay information

My alert works fine here. The button pops up you click it and it shows u the delay. The button does not cover anything vital.

Ray

Delays dont show up with a weather warning. They do show up with a Traffic warning though.

Odd as it sounds I had a 680

Odd as it sounds I had a 680 that never showed weather alerts and now a 760 with msn that does not show weather alerts iether. I actually want to see these weather alerts, I know here in Houston we get our fair share of nws alerts. Just click on the msn message page and you can see them there on an inclament weather day. I think my WX file is corrupt. Does anyone have the WX file from their 7xx nuvi they can let me have to replace mine?

thanks!

Glad I did not put it on mine

I am glad I have not tried to use MSN service. I hate to say it, but I agree that it seems MSN does screw up everything.

Floodwarning as we speak

Floodwarning as we speak here around the Houston, Tx area but nothing on my map screen. Do you have to be on a route to get it or just have the unit on in map mode?

here is a pic.
