does the garmin gps nuvi 200 have?

I am trying to find the proximity alerts on my garmin nuvi 200 do I have them? I have custom poi's that I downloaded from here and do they show up on my map when I drive close to those areas and does an icon show up how can I do this on the gps nuvi 200 frustrated...

The nüvi 200 does have proximity alerts.

The nüvi 200 does have proximity alerts. It just can't play custom MP3 sounds. Proximity alerts do have to be turned on. I do not have my 200 handy to guide you through the menus, but if no one else provides the answer before I get my nüvi, I'll post the sequence.

Also, be aware that alerts will only sound if you set alerts for your POIs. Alerts are set in many ways. You can set them by specific words or numbers in the filename, by specific settings in the POI locations in the file itself, by running POI Loader in Manual Mode.

For example, you won't get an alert for Starbucks unless you intentionally set one.

You will, however, get an alert for a file with the word "redlight" in the filename or with a speed alert in the form of a number in the filename.

You can find more specific details in the Help File for POI Loader under the Alerts section.

nuvi 200

when I turned on my nuvi i went to:

1.Wrench
2. settings

but there was nothing for setting alerts.this is what I had;

Settings
a)system
b) security
c)navigation
d)time
e) language
f)display
g)map

I went through all of those and didn't see anything dealing with setting alerts....I'm I missing something?

I think that you won't see the "Proximity Points" button unless you have POIs loaded that have alert information included in them.

Try loading a POI file that has alerts (redlight cameras, speed alerts, etc) and see if the button shows up.

Proximity alerts

I think I found my problem......I read the FAQ. I set the loader at manual and info for the alerts were there. I also loaded a BMI image, named it the same as the POI and put both in there own file but when loaded it to my nuvi 200 the image doesn't show up. I zoomed in to 80 feet and still no image. Did I forget to do something?

BMI? Maybe a typo but it should be a .bmp file.

Thank you

Thanks everyone. This post helped me figure out my problems. It helped showing what I should actually be seeing on my screen. Thanks.

does the garmin gps nuvi 200 have?

I had my custom POIs save on the SD card and loaded them using POI loader. I had .bmp and mp3 files in the same name as POIs file. Then I followed the steps as said above, but still did not see the "Proximity Points". Don't know why...

does the garmin gps nuvi 200 have? - Yup!

You need to use the manual mode and set a proximity for the file.

Same here

I'm glad to see another Nuvi 200 person with the same issue. (sort of smile )
I have found that some of the poi files do not show the .bmp when I zoom in. The only thing I could find is the fact that they appear to not be in the correct spot.
Example:

McDonalds- I zoom in and see the 'food' icon for McDonalds on the road. BUT.. When I use my custom poi McDonalds I see a grey dot and it is across the road or off the road compared to the McDonalds that is loaded by the gps. (I see a grey dot on one side and the food icon on the other)
I do see the custom icon for Chuckie Cheese. BUT.. I noticed that the custom poi and the built in points match.
I'm thinking that it has to do with either the 2009 map or software version that is loaded on the Nuvi 200.

Your 200 does not have the ability to play mp3's, so the mp3 alert won't work. If you search, there is a method to use a wav file instead.

If, at the conclusion of using POI Loader, it said it was successful, they are there. Can you find them under Extras? If so, do you see the icon when you choose a location and then "Show Map"? Some models require that you be in browse mode for the custom icons to show.
