I am New to the Nuvi family & I have ?'s

Hello everyone…. I am a new member here with a Nuvi 660, (2 weeks ownership). I love the unit and is a great upgrade from my Lowrance 350c…. I am having fun with the POI’s…. I downloaded the camera warning POI’s and it works great. Howerver I am getting warning notification from my Nuvi, 4 blocks from the intersections where the cameras are.. Any help on this would be great... Also would like to know if anyone can recommend a screen protector for the Nuvi….

This is a wonderful forum and find it most useful.

Your alerts for the cams

Your alerts for the cams seem a bit far. Try to reload them in manual mode and set the distance to be like 500 ft or something small, but enough to allow you to safely stop.

The title of post means, if you take care of your GPSr, you don't need a screen protector. They are for nerds...j/k. I have mine in a leather case that goes on my belt (whowwwwww...talking about being a nerd!) or it is on my mount and I am using it and there is no need for a protector. I use my "clean" finger to touch the screen.

loushi... Thanks for your advise, but I am aware of the amount of screen protectors out there... I would like to purchase one that will work well with the "Touch Screen" of the Nuvi also do not want the Glare that some protectors have.... Just wanted to cut to the chase and get the right one... Hoping that someone in this forum has tried several types and has come up with a favorite one....

Clarivue

I use Clarivue for my 660, works great. Bought it off a seller off ebay.

asianfire... Sorry but I have to disagree with you on the screen protector…. I have protectors on my PDA‘s and they have saved my screens over the years… I slip my 660 in my top shirt pocket when I take it with me and the stock leather case is just to large to slip into that pocket… Also when I place my sunglasses in the same pocket I don’t want to scratch my screen with the glasses… I also you my nail to scroll my maps on the Nuvi, just makes a better contact on the screen.

Charivue Question,,,,

Oditius...How's the Nuvi screen with the Charivue. Do you get any shinny or glare with the Charivue.. Also how is the feed back touch from the screen?

Looks fine

I can really tell no difference in the looks or feel. If you recalibrate the touch screen after you put it on, it should never be a problem. I have used them on my PDA for a long time. You don't have to hit it harder or anything. It came pre-cut for my 660. And was easy to put on. But recalibrating the screen is important. Once you put it on, the response from the 660 can get a little slow. But that is an easy fix by recalibrating. smile

suggestions

There were earlier posts recommending screen protectors from www.shieldzone.com & www.pocketpctechs.com
Personally, I still do consider the OEM carrying case -> 010-10823-01 for the 6xx series <- as being the best.
After sticking the screen protector, you may want to consider using a stylus... is giving a better aim, anyway.

If you need protection, then by all means purchase it.

Well, I use my finger not fingernail on the screen and my GPSr is totally by itself in it's nice leather and velvet case, so there is really no need for one, however, if you have need for it, then by all means use thhem. RadioShack has them for garmins.

Thanks asianfire, I will look 4 them at the "Nerd Section" at R/S.... LOL...

Regarding the distant adjustment for the Camera Red Light warning, 500 ft was not good (to late of warning) so I went up to 850 ft and that seems to be better for the Nuvi.... May try some new higher numbers just to be sure....
