My POI file is not working. HELP!

I just made my first attempt at creating a small POI in csv format and it isn't working. The file contains 7 locations and it is so way off. It shows that each location is over 9K miles from home when in fact it they all shoud be within 30 miles. After I load the file and attempt to map a location I get a message stating, "Route Calculation Error: No roads to destination." I am using a Garmin Nuvi 660 and MS Excel to create the .csv file. I need some help and advise. I can upload the file if necessary for those experts here to check out. Thanks

Where did you get your

Where did you get your coordinates? When you look at them on the GPSr, where does the GPSr think you current location is?

And to add to AsianFires comments

What format are the coordinates in ???? Decimal or Deg:min:sec
Should be in decimal format ie: ex: -102.51111, 34.45678 in the .csv
data
This is from the "Been there - done that" category !!!!!

I got the coordinates from

I got the coordinates from GPSVisualizer.com and the coordinates are in decimal format.

I also tried plugging in the decimal coordinates in Google Maps and it maps the coordinates in question accurately but not on my Nuvi.

I did notice one thing tho...some of the posted csv files (Trader Joe, i.e.) the coordinates are wrong in at least one location by several hundred feet. I filtered out just the ones in NY and I used the geocode site and redid them and got better, more accurate results.

Anyone have a more detailed instruction set for creating the csv files? I sure could use it being a newbie at this stuff.

.

If the locations are showing up 9000 miles from your house, check to be sure that you have the longitude first and the latitude second in your POI file. This will mean that you have to reverse the positions that you get from the GPS Visualizer site.

For example,

1600 PENNSYLVANIA AVE NW WASHINGTON DC
Latitude 38.898563
Longitude -77.037223
Coordinates 38.898563, -77.037223
N38°53.91378, W077°2.23338

In the POI file, you need to put it in as follows:

-77.037223,38.898563,1600 PENNSYLVANIA AVE WASHINGTON DC

I looked at what I had done

I looked at what I had done and I had reversed the lat and long coordinates but after I changed them, it still didn't work. What gives? Is there something unique about the csv file format that I'm not aware of? Whatever!

What I ended up doing is getting the original Trader Joe csv file from this website and I copied only the records I needed for just Northeast Trader Joe's locations. After copying those and placing them into a new excel spreadsheet, it worked correctly.

So I don't know what went wrong with my first data.

I am still not clear on how to take the resultant data from GPSVisualizer and turn it into a csv quickly and efficiently. Anyone here help me?

Thanks

Send it over

Send me your file and I'll check it for you; or you may want to give POI Verifier a try.

Hmmmm

My errors in my first ones were having the Lat/Lon reversed. The second was missing the - on the Longitude.
