Not to be a garmin zombie, but they really are great to work with. They have over 6million POIs and it is very easy to add custom ones. Unless you are really stuck on yours, return it and get a garmin.

Prefer Magellan over Garmin

I have both the Magellan 3200 and Garmin Nuvi 200 and like the Magellan much much better. Except for the number of POIs, it has more features (including split screen, attention tone @ turns, next turn graphic arrow on screen, street name you're currently on, multidestination planning, and more pleasing screen color scheme, to name a few) and is easier to use than the Garmin. In addition, the Magellan satellites take a few seconds to fire up whereas the Garmiin takes a few MINUTES. That's a real bummer. After using the Garmin with their 6M POIs, I quickly learned that the huge number of POIs are not all they are cracked up to be. Many of them in my area were out of date and many I'd never use. So, I'm returning the Garmin and getting another Magellan so my husband and I both have our own. The Magellan POI editor works fine and I'll upload only those POIs that really interest me.

Don't know about the 200,

Don't know about the 200, but with my 660 under the Navigation system screen, there's a button to turn the flight attendant "bong" on there.

And the Nüvis do show the turn arrow when auto zoomed up close enough to be relevant. You can see it any time by hitting the "Turn In" button at the lower right hand corner.

As for satellite acquisition, are you using the latest GPS firmware? Minutes to acquire? Mine never takes more than 30 seconds and, with the new 3.0 update, it acquires in less than 10 seconds now.

And Magellan being "easier to use" than a dumbed down almost to the point of retardation Nüvi? Didn't think that was possible. smile

I have a 660 and I can say it takes some time before the reception bar shows that it has acquired satellites. And I know it take more then 10 secs.

Well, could be based on our locations. Mine acquires very quickly on the dash in the driveway and out of the garage. It may take a minute or so if I'm playing with it indoors.

Are you on a PC or a Mac? Also, in that thread, you have to type the 0252 number sequence from the key pad and not from the numbers above the letters.

Alt-0252

If I remember correctly, the "0252" needs to be typed on the number pad and NOT the number keys above the alpha keys.

poi streetpilot

Love my Streetpilot C550 and find it very easy to add POI's with or without sound or warnings. Plus many already pre-loaded.

doesn't matter

Added 6M POI file to Maestro 3200

For all you 3200 owners out there, I was successful in modifying the files so that the map is on the main drive and the 6M POI file is on the SD card. Without the SD card, the unit WILL map but fail in doing POIs. With the SD card, the unit WILL BOTH map and do POIs.

660 take a long time to aquire sats

I have a 660 that I got back in August. Then it would acquire sats in the house. after two software updates it no longer will acquire in the house, and it usually takes several minutes to acquire outside. Mostly I don't know because I turn it on when I put it in the car several minutes before I leave. However if I don't then it takes several minutes to acquire. It definitely has gotten worse with the last two updates.
