Own Route

Does anybody know how to set up your own route on c580? For example if my garmin is telling me to go via I495 and I want to go via I278, is there a way to do that?

Just go I278. It will eventually catch up.

I see. Can your unit even

I see. Can your unit even do routing? What does the owner's manual say? The only way I could do something like you want on my Nüvi is to find an intermedate waypoint on the 2D map and insert it as a "via". Or, you could save multiple favorites and jump from one to the next to get to the highway.

Or, why not use the 2D overhead map as a "paper map", find an on ramp to the highway and insert that as your intermediate waypoint. Surely, you can zoom out and scroll around to at least find the highway...

how about a waypoint?

Can you insert a waypoint in the middle of the route? My nuvi lets me do that and so i can force it to go to a mid point where hopefully it picks up the remaining of the route that I wanted to take initially.

The easiest and best way

That is the easiest and best way for me. If I know that I want to go a particular route, I take it and the GPSr will catch up and reroute appropreiately.

By doing that you will get the "A Better Route is Available" or "Recalculating" wink

trip options

Have you tried changing the route options? Shortest route, quickest route, avoid something?

Yes

Yes, I did and most of the times the unit will give me the shortes distance, but sometimes instead of inerstate A I want to go via interstate B
