Just recently purchased a c550 - and I've downloaded some of the POI bitmaps to my computer. I've fired up the Garmin POI loader, and when I select the folder with the icons it tells me there are no data files in that directory, that I need a CSV or GPX file.
All I'd like to do is add some icons to some POIs already in my Garmin...do I have to create a CSV or GPX file first? In other words - there is a mobil gas station a mile from my house. Is there any way I can replace the POI icon with the Mobil icon downloaded from this site?

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/4359 will help
custom bmp's must be associated with a poi file (csv or gpx)
you can't change the icons of existing (pre-installed) poi's.
If you had a "Mobil" poi file with a custom bmp of the Mobil symbol you could change that.
The new bmp would have to be named the same as the csv or gpx. The link above explains all that.
........Garmin StreetPilot c550 / Nüvi 765...........
make sure that the POI files
make sure that the POI files aren't zipped...
POI.zip vs POI.csv
