c330 - two versions

Well a week or so ago I discovered I had a c330 with a different board and firmware. It had v4.40 loaded on it and according to ProductSupport this was the same as v5.70.
With the Black Friday deal, I picked up another c330 (which has v5.60 on it) and returned the v4.40 for a refund. They wouldn't do just a refund of difference.
Anyway, after seeing the screen on the v4.40 version (2nd gen), and now seeing the screen on the v5.60 (1st gen), I see a noticeable difference.
The 1st gen has what I describe as a "tft look" too it. The glass screen seems to have much more of a glare also.
I saw many comments from people about the screen and how hard it was to see in sunlight. I didn't see this issue with the 2nd gen, so maybe that's another change.
If anyone happens to have both versions, or can do a comparsion with someone, please confirm.
I plan to go back to WallyWorld to confirm this and do an exchange if this is truly the case.
Also, the 2nd gen came in a square box, the 1st gen came in a rectangle box.

I can't speak about the 2nd gen version running V4.4 but the C330 I bought 1 1/2 years ago definitely washes out. I bought a little hood to go around it.
I'm just wondering if the C330 with the newer board and V4.4 software (which is the same as the C340) might have TTS. If that's the case it actually could be basically a C340 in disquise plus have the newer screen (less washout).
I just ordered a C340 - due to be delivered tomorrow - for less than $200 because I want the TTS and perhaps get a less washout screen.
I don't need all the other bells & whistles !

Cheaper little thing - attaches with velcro - doesn't look bad and the hood protects the screen somewhat when you put unit in glove compartment or just in generaal handling. Don't remember the cost off hand !

there are also little glare protectors on the net that can be placed directly on the screen
my C330 came with 4.40 firmware
but v8 maps. Is this a keeper?
I took an 11,500 mile trip
I took an 11,500 mile trip - 33 states - last year using a C330 with V7 maps and NO Custom POIs.
I did not update to V8 until this year. I drove about 2000 miles of last years
trip this year with the V8 maps. Really didn't see a lot of difference and had VERY few problems , if any !
In another 2 weeks I will head out on a 5500 mile trip, 13 States, with 2008NT maps.
Loaded up this year with Custom POIs for Rest Areas, our favorite restaurants, Truck Stop gas Stations and a bunch of special locations.
Not expecting any problems !

it's different
After taking the new one on a test drive yesterday, the screens are different. Had all kinds of glare. Heading back to WallyWorld to find one of the v4.40 versions....

Did the "C330" with the V4.4 (what you called 2nd gen) have TTS ???????
In other words, did it announce the street names you were turning onto or your favorites ?????
Also, was that the one with the screen that didn't wash out as badly ?????

TTS Starts with...
The C330 does not have the TTS - the C340 does have it.

I was aware of that - I'm sorry if I wasn't clear -
the Unit that was bought was bought as a C330 BUT it had software/firmware version of 4.4 and the PCB which normally goes in the C340. I was just wondering if this "C330" might have C340 characteristics because of the PCB and V4.4.

returned the v5.70 version for a v4.40 and it's very clear this newer version has an anti-glare screen.
So I'm confirming my initial thought...there is both a board change, as well as, screen.
Sure wish they would divulge such info on their site!
