Questions about POI's

Is there a way to have my c330 tell me of a POI coming near without actually having it as a part of my route? I have mapsource and I am in the process of putting all of my POI's in a map to upload to my c330 but I can't get the mapsource unlock wizard to communicate with the garmin site to unlock the maps yet. I have a POI file of all of the ham radio repeaters and I would like to be notified that I am getting near one so I can tune to the appropriate frequency not actually route myself out to a field or wherever the repeater is stationed.

You can set alerts for your POIs through POI Loader, either automatically (by title of file or entry info) or manually through manual mode. See http://www.poi-factory.com/node/1278 for more information.
The bad news is that alerts work on locations that are on your current route. If they are offset from the road (not sure distance) and or it is not on your current route, the alerts will not sound.

Doing it with Mapsource
You create waypoints which will load directly into your GPSr "Favorites folder" - not "Custom POI" ! And you can't set alerts with Favorites UNLESS they are duplicated as Custom POIs.

Making them Favorites
You "can not" get an alert BUT it will give you distance to the location where ever it happens to be - not just ahead of you on the road you are traveling as you would with the Location as a Custom POI.

Is there an outside vendor
Is there an outside vendor that will load the mapsource maps and allow me to add POI's as features to that I can be alerted? This is very important to me to be able to do this. Or is there a GPS unit on the market that will allow me to do this?
