Has anyone had a power cord failure. My cord just stopped working and the cigarette plug end started to get very hot. I checked the fuse and it is still good but no power is coming to the cradle end.
Garmin has ordered me a new - Gotta love Garmin customer service!

Blah Blah Blah
I come clean I know nothing about nothing, actually I can Barely spell My name.
DIY projects are fun and WE should not be scared to try and make things on there own. I'm not talking about that back yard job they don't want to pay an illegal immigrant to do. If we fail we should take ownership of our failure.
I had a guy living in my house for a while from Chile. We had an old CD player that we had pretty much discarded, he come up to us and asked if he could keep the unit if he was able to fix it. This man had less than a HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA, he was working as a mechanic for my Dad. LONG SHORT of it he opened it up and looked around FIXed it and took it home when his Visa was over.
I'm going to call him today and tell him about how many wonderful things you have programed and designed.
Melted power cord on my Garmin 660
My Garmin Nuvi 660 stopped working and when we looked at the power cord to the lighter, there were two distinct MELTED spots on the piece that plugs into the lighter.
I am very unhappy with Garmin. I wrote to them and explained the situation and this is their reply.
"I will be happy to set up an exchange for you. But because we have never heard of this happening ever before my supervisor has requested photos prior to it being set up."
So they want me to jump through hoops to get a replacement? I don't have time for that. Also, they state they've never heard of this before??? Yeah, right.
We haven't heard of this either
Lots of forum talk, but I have never seen a comment of melted connectors. Failures yes, melted no.
My wall charger died after 2 months. I emailed Garmin and they sent me a new one. No questions asked, and no need to send in the old one to prove it first. Can't complain about that...
Melted is a different story. It would reveal a potential fire hazard. For safety reasons, the engineers would definitely want to take a look at that to determine what sort of fault would allow that much heat so they could correct that in future designs. Any why the fuse would not blow first is very puzzling. I'm really surprised that they did not request you to send it back.
I don't really see anything to get angry about.
mirror wiring problem
I'm planning on wiring a perm connection to my car. I mounted my unit just below my rearview mirror and I plan to tap into my mirror power. I've cut the cable from a Moto RAZR car adapter and I plan to solder it to a 5V@1A voltage regulator which will be hidden in a panel above my mirror.
I've done this and it works well except for two issues. First I wired to the wrong lead and the power only comes on when my headlights or fog lights are on. This turns out to work pretty well as I can turn on my fog lights anytime and now just use this as a switch to turn the power off/on when I get in or out.
Second is that the suction mount fails once in a while, especially when the temp gets hot or very cold and the mount with my n360 falls to the dash or floor or on the shifter...NOT good. === ESPECIALLY BECAUSE THE CORD GETS DAMAGED FROM THE FALL AND SUDDEN STOP === I've solved this by rigging an expandable (pirate an old car adapter cable) cord as a "leash" to the suction mount, now when it falls, it only drops a few inches and does not tug on the power cable. (and it looks cool, the power runs through the spiral cable/leash)
