coordinates

I have Delorme map software and can pull up coordinates for locations. When I trid to make a poi it was 19 miles off. New to all this tried searching found confusing stuff. I'm sure its something simple any help thanks in advance.

What format ????

What format are the coordinates in ????
Can be a large difference in position between coordinates in decimal format and coordinates in deg/min/sec format !
You have to be consistent when checking for position !
Most of the mapping programs use decimal format !

N34 44.851 w91 36.916 This

N34 44.851
w91 36.916
This is just a random spot. I copied an existing poi file and replaced the coordinates with my house and it was off.

Coords should read

Coords should read similar to :

-91.615267W or W91.615267
34.747517N or N34.747517

Depending whether you are using Google Earth, Mapsource,MS Streets & Trips or generating a .csv file. I don't what the Delorme mapping software requires

Swap the latitude and longitude fields

Dave,

Most, if not all, of the *.csv files at the POI factory have the longitude field first and then latitude. Delorme expects imported *.csv files to contain the latitude field first.

I use Microsoft Excel to fix this problem. I open the downloaded *.csv file with Excel, swap the two columns containing latitude and longitude, then save the file in the original *.csv format.

On the Nuvi, go to where to, coordinates, format. I had to select the third one down to get the correct position. (h ddd.ddddd)
