Airplane icons while flying

I just noticed this today, but when you are flying, you see airplane (airports) icons on the map (even when you are zoomed out like 50ft). I wonder if it knows that if you are going 300+ mph, that you are flying and you may be interested in airports?

Airport Icons
On my Zumo, they show up at 12mi, 8mi, 5mi, 3mi, and 2mi if I have the Map Detail set to "Less".
They show up at 12mi, 8mi, and 5mi if I have the Map Detail set to "Normal".
They show up at 12mi and 8mi if I have the Map Detail set to "More".
Otherwise, they don't show up at all. Not at all when I have the Map Detail set at "Most" or "Least". And not when zoomed in or out beyond what I listed above.
Odd.
