transparent icon problem

Okay, I have a Garmin Nuvi 350 and I am using POI loader latest version. I have saved an icon in 16bit with the 255-0-255 colour setting using MS Paint. Problem is the icon shows the magenta colour when viewed on my Nuvi. Ideas?

try saving as 8 bit

I had this problem recently. I found out that you have to save as an 8 bit (256 color) bmp for the transparency to work.

I tried to save it as 8 bit

I tried to save it as 8 bit but MS Paint only has a choice of 16 bit or 24 bit.

.

As suggested above, choose 256 color BMP.

use paint shop

you need a better paint program. Try Paint Shop Pro. Its fairly easy to use, and it will let you save at any color depth.

.

MS Paint will work. I use it all the time for this exact purpose.

Color depth

I don't normally use Paint since it such a simple program mainly for graphics but I tried it with Windows XP and don't see any way of adjusting the color depth. As mentioned, Corel Paint Shop Pro is an outstanding program with the flexibility to save an image with lots of options. The confusion may be in the definition of color depth. An 8 bit depth is 256 colors and a 16 bit depth is 65,000 colors but the colors still are in the range from 0-255. Likewise a 24 bit depth is 16 million colors still in the range of 0-255. ( There are 256 colors in each of the 3 primary colors Red, green, blue, each with 256 shades so the total is 256*256*256= 16,777,216. When you limit the color depth to 256 a number of shades in each color are combined.

Another question....any

Another question....any suggestions on a free online image editing program to use. I have tried a few but can't seem to figure out how to save the image as 24x24?

MSPaint works for me too...

search for tons of freeware

most editing software will have a "resize" option somewhere, usually under "image" on the tool bar. In MS paint, look for "image" on tool bar, then "attributes" You may have to actually read the "help" file to find where it is and how to use any particular program. Yep, just checked, MS paint has a help file, search the help file for "resizing"

Best of Luck
