File Names

I am relatively new here as well, but this is what I have done.

To make a fuel directory sorted by station type, you would need to have each station brand have its own csv file.

C:\My POI
C:\My POI\FUEL
C:\My POI\FUEL\CENEX.CSV
C:\My POI\FUEL\KWIK SHOP.CSV

I'm using a garmin c330 and it will some days alert and some days it doesn't. I am still doing some testing on the proximity alarms using the Rest Area files.

Are you loading your files

Are you loading your files in manual mode? Also I am assuming your .mp3 file you are using has the exact name as the name of the red light camera file except for the .mp3 extension..Try loading it internally instead of the SD card and see if that works.

Here's what I do with my Nuvi 350. I learned most of this from the people here at POI Factory.

Create a directory, I called my Custom POIs
Under that directory create a subdirectory for each category of pois you want to use.
For example

>My Custom POIs (main directory)
>>Truckstops (sub-directory)
>>Reststops (sub-directory)
>>Redlight Cameras (sub-directory)
>> etc.

Put files into sub-directories.
Remember each poi file that has a mp3 file must have the exact same name as the mp3 file (except for the extension)
For example...
>My Custom POIs
>> Truckstops
Flying J Truckstops.csv
Flying J Truckstops.mp3

When you have all the subdirectories you wish and all the files you wish... then
Run the POI Loader from the >My Custom POIs directory. It will automatically pick up the sub-directories.

The Nuvi 350 will read from a SD Card so I choose to load all my files on the SD card. Some say it may be faster loading into memory... I have not checked it. It works good for me on the SD Card.

Hope this helps.

i have tried all that. i

i have tried all that. i cant seem to get it working

.

Okay, you list a bunch of units in your sig line.

Which unit(s) are you trying to load the Custom POIs to?

Does that unit have an MP3 Player? The Custom Alert sounds won't work if the unit doesn't have an MP3 player.

Have you double and triple checked your file extensions? If your computer is hiding your file extensions, you might have double extensions which will make the Custom Alert sounds not work.

From your initial post, it sounds like you might have more than one level of subfolders. That won't work. You can only have one level.

You can't have more than one level of subfolder. The files themselves will create the subcategory.

For example, it might look like this.

> My POI (Main folder)
>> IHOP (subfolder)
... IHOP.csv
... IHOP.bmp
>> National Parks (subfolder)
... National Parks.gpx
... National Monuments.gpx
... National Recreation areas.gpx
... National Parks.bmp
... National Monuments.bmp
etc.

In this example, IHOP and National Parks show up as categories and then under National Parks, the subcategories of National Parks, National Monuments, and National Recreation Areas show up.

thanks for all your help. it

Sorry about that...

I didn't think about not having the latest version of poi loader. Good catch. Thanks.

Glad it is working for you.
