The tone is a sound, similar to the one you hear on a commercial airliner just before the pilot turns the seat belt sign on, to let you know something is on your screen or coming up on the road.
We use the tone with the red light POIs to let you know a camera enforced red light is close.

That's funny, cause my wife the first time she heard it, said, "I feel like I am in an airplane" and I replied, "Yeap, watch how fast we go". She didn't think that was funny and called me an idiot.

I wish there was a way to acknowledge the tone so that it doesn't keep repeating. I have an alert set up for a few school zones in my area. If the school zone lights aren't activated I obviously don't slow to 20 mph. I have to listen to that tone repeatedly until I pass the set waypoint.
Yeah, that happens to me too. I saw the option of a one time alert or a continueous alert and I changed it back and forth and now have it on the one time alert, but it still alerts multiple times. This doesn't really bother me except when I am on the blue screen with the speed. It covers the speed...sorta defeating the purpose!

The school and redlight proximity alerts sounded when I was on the interstate recently. I was apparently in the proximity radius, but not on the access roads where the schools and redlights were.
Attention Tone -
It is used to turn the tone on or off.

sometimes there may be a
sometimes there may be a connector road running along side the freeway that has a red light camera intersection that can trigger the alert.

Alert on interstate
yeah....I have to tell my wife, who's sometimes driving, to ignore that when we're on the interstate.

Can't do that in Arizona much longer. They plan to install cameras on some of the interstates soon.
