Question about the new 2008 Map Update

Sorry for the cross-post but just realized that I should have posted this here.

I just saw this Sunday's ad for Best Buy and Circuit City for the 2008 Garmin Map Update ($69.99). But the ad says the update is for those who have had their Garmon for over a year.

I've had mine for 40 weeks.

The update DVD I already have for it is the City Navigator NT North American V8. But nowhere on it does it say anything about 2008

Is the 2008 Map Date in the stores a newer verison the update I have ... or are they one and the same?

Any and all insight appreciated. Thanks.

2008 garmin maps

the new maps were released in July of 2007 for North America 2008. if you have had yours for 40 weeks they are the old maps. i have also found that with the new maps thye have figured out some logical road changes. when you are on a new highway ramp or re-route it figures out the minor road change without a major recalulation.

It seems a little smarter than the old maps.

Unfortunately, they are not the same. the 2008 maps are the newest. If they had kept with the same name convention, it would have been version 9

That's what I thought.

That's what I thought. Thanks.

Every two years

From what I've read and heard from other GPS'ers (like that term, Miss POI?), most people update their maps about every two years. If you've got v8 and your unit is 40 weeks old (Jan - Feb?), you probably will want to wait until early 2010 to buy the update, unless you've got $70 to blow on vNT2008.

Just my two cents...
