Red light files and mp3 files

OK you'll - I am definitely computer challenged. I understand the file name .csv has to be the same as the .mp3. Question - how in the world do I find out what the file name looks like for the red light POI? All I can see is Redlight-Cameras.csv. Everything I see you'll talking about is a _ (underscore) instead of a - (dash).
Second question - how do I make the .mp3 file read the same as the camera file? i.e where do I type that change Dah!
As you can see, I am in real trouble here.

And now that I have your attention, can I change the distance to get an alert. I would suspect it is in one of the threads but maybe somebody knows this also.

Rename the .mp3 file as

Rename the .mp3 file as redlight-cameras.mp3 and be sure both files are in the same folder. Then your .mp3 will notify you of each occurence of a red light camera that is currently in this week's database as you approace those coordinates.

filenames / extensions

The default settings in Windows hides file extensions.

So on most computers, the file name you see should *not* end with .csv or .mp3

On a PC with default settings, the file names shown should appear to be exactly the same:

redlight-cameras
redlight-cameras

In other words, try removing the .csv and .mp3 from the end of your file names smile

Alert distance

You can change the alert distance as you're transferring the file to your GPS with POI Loader. Select "Manual Mode" instead of "Express Mode".

Using manual mode in POI Loader will show a screen that lets you change the alert distance.

alert distance

Thanks for the tip! I've always used express mode and didn't know you could do that.

filenames / extensions

Thanx JM - I went into my POI folder and got rid of the extension I put on the mp3 file. Now it seems they both look the same. I will have to wait till tomorrow to "test drive" it and will let you know.

Alert distance

Thanx again JM - I will give that a try along with your other advice. Will let you know how I made out with both pieces of this puzzle.

Case-sensitive

Note that the file names are case sensitive.

Redlight-Cameras.csv and
redlight-cameras.mp3 are not the same name...because only one has capital letters. The mp3 will not work with that csv.

redlight-cameras.csv and
redlight-cameras.mp3 are the same....and that mp3 will work with that csv.

Best bet (IMHO) is to copy one onto the other, preserving the extension.

To unhide extensions in

Thanx asianfire-That showed some of them - others didn't but when I went to properties, it said they wouldn't show to "protect my computer" whatever that means.

Thanx pfpelican - Understand the case sensitive rule but don't understand your IMHO about copying one onto the other???

This isn't the case...

excuse the pun!

I just tried this example - and POI Loader did load the .mp3 file into the .gpi

(I have 'acquired' a .gpi viewing tool from Garmin that is proving quite useful for this kind of detective work)

Sadly - not for re-distribution.

copying names

sandman wrote:

click on a file name. click again. the filename should now be available for editing. select the part you want to copy. probably the name without the extension (everything before the dot). ctrl+c will copy that to the clipboard.

do the same for the target file (click, click, select name)...only this time do a ctrl+v. this will paste the clipboarded name onto your target file.

then they both should have exactly the same name, with different extensions.
