c530 download issue (2008 map data will not load)

First of all, you could have probably gotten the 2008 maps for free from garmin, but that is water under the bridge, wait that isn't right, but you know what I am saying.

Second, it sounds like (for whatever reason) that your v8 map is missing. Do you have the file name, "gmapprom.img" file on your Garmin?

just checked garmin does show this file .this is all new to me i am in the dark

All I can think about is that you already had the 2008 maps loaded. Turn on your Garming unit, click on the "wrench" at the bottom of the screen, click on Map then click on "Map Info" at the bottom of the screen.

It it says v8, you have the old maps and the update should work - call Garmin

If it says City Navigator North America NT 2008, you have the new maps. This is followed by "Lower 48 States" and/or by Alaska, Canada.

Also reboot your pc. I notice so many people not rebooting there pc's and receiveing odd errors when looking to install software.

Therefore you don't have the new maps and the update DVD should work.

Stupid question but are you sure your GPS unit was connected to your PC before you started the DVD. My update was very straightforward. Yours should work.

You should call GARMIN Tech Support

gps is conn to computer i can go threw all the steps until I get that message .the garmin site update maps called for the new map update .Nowhere did the installation ask for the unlock code seems weird.Is there a phone # i can call in canada toll free .I have emailed support (waiting)Also will the c530 hold the entire new map or do i have to us a memory card for one country.As for garmin sending me this map for free i am in canada so who knows hey its only money would not feel so bad if i could get the map to preform thanks for the tips i will wait for garmin to email me

I am also in Canada and I got the map updates for free (even free duty!).

You will not have room on your unit for both the Canada and Alaska maps AND for the 48 States plus Puorto Rico and Hawaii. If you don't travel often to the southern states, just put the Canada maps since it also includes all border states (New York, Washington, etc.)

There are also threads on this site that will describe how to put your Canada maps on an SD card. You will have to do a search for this.

However,your priority is to get the map updates working first.

Just tried again to load map, same result this thing is driving me crazy . My map disc cover reads map update 2008 city navigator north america NT could I have the wrong map. This map came from the source and i have registered it to my gps so it is mine forever cannot return it.I have read mabey 50 posts today I seem alone with this issue, Just my luck

Looking back at the original post you placed, I would hold off until Garmin tech emails you or calling them directly.

Have you registered your gps unit before trying the dvd? curious if it has something to do with it.

registered this unit day one as soon I got home. checked garmin site looked for updates they said go for the new 2008 map at the time i did not no it was free anyway picked up the map tried to load no go end of story. IF IT AINT BROKE DONT FIX IT I think I will take your advise and leave well enough alone thanks for your help
