Is my map good? (Anchorage POIs)

I updated to the 2008 map when it first came out and now found out that I am moving to Alaska (military). When I calculate the route to Anchorage it works fine, however there are NO points of interest at all in Anchorage.
Is this just how the data is, or did I not install it right?

Also, for some reason when I installed, I am not able to do it on my Mac. I get to the screen to put in the key and it always says that it cannot connect to the server. The initial install that I did I had access to a windows computer, however, I don't now.

Thank you,

Dana

Can you give a few more details about not finding any points of interest in Anchorage?

I don't have my GPS unit with me, but in MapSource (which has the same maps), I see lots of points of interest in and around Anchorage.

Did you zoom all the way in on the map?

How did you try searching for the points of interest?

"Where to go" from the main

"Where to go" from the main screen, then "Near" on the bottom and typed in Anchorage, then selected Alaska as the state and went to each of the categories and it showed nothing.

I set my location to be in

I set my location to be in archorage and I found many POIs (such as food, attractions, etc). I have a nuvi 350

Ted Stevens Anchorage International

Find this address:

W International Airport Rd
Anchorage, AK 99502

The address above is for Ted Stevens Anchorage International.

Instead of selecting the GO button, select Show Map and select Set location.
Then check out the POI’s.

Enjoy! smile

Now I really think it's not

Now I really think it's not loaded, when it asks me for the state for an address, Alaska is not an option after pressing "A" I get Alabama, Arizona, and Arkansas.

When installing the new maps

When installing the new maps (2008 NT) did you select the lower 48 states? If you did, then Alaska isn’t installed. You would then need MapSource to help you load Alaska to an SD Card. For that matter you might as well add Canada. A 512mb will load Alaska and all of Canada.

Ah, I just looked at your profile. You have a c330, so you didn't install Alaska with the update because it all won't fit on the c330 unit. As bandaid has stated, you can load the rest on on SD card.

benson_mountain posted several detailed posts on how to do it on that model.

Quick tip:You don't need an

Quick tip:
You don't need an SD Card reader/writer to get the maps on the card. You can be slick and a use a digital camera to load the maps via MapSource. MapSource will find the digital camera as a storage device and walla...your done lol. wink

PS that’s not to steer you away form the info that benson_mountain has posted. His information is essential.

Ok, thanks everyone I got

Ok, thanks everyone I got it. I had to use the map data from my NT version 8 map though as I am not able to load the maps to the computer from the 2008 DVD. I keep getting an error when trying to run the MSI file.
It will start the install and then after hitting next, I get a message claiming that the installer encountered an error and no files were changed on the computer.

DVD Map Update 2008

Try rebooting to clear your cache.

1. Make sure your Map Update 2008 is in your DVD drive.
2. Select start, my computer, right click on the DVD drive that has your map, select open, double click on the Windows folder, double click on the MSI folder and double click on CNNANT2008Update_ENU.

This will install MapSource with your 2008 maps. Let us know how it goes.

Tried all suggestions, it

Tried all suggestions, it still won't work.
There may be a problem with the disc, because it won't work on my Mac at all. I actually had to get windows again to get to where I am now.
Oh, well.

Let me know what your fix

Let me know what your fix turns about to be. I'm pretty curious. smile
