Is it possible to make a poi having only the latitude and longitude, not a zipcode?

Perhaps this has been covered but I can't seem to find the info here. I would like to add a campground address to my Garmin 550 but only have the longitude and latitude info. Is there a way to do it?
Thanks to all,
vanfann

I am not real clear what you

I am not real clear what you are trying to accomplish, but yes, if you don't include the zip, it won't be there, which is quit obvious, so I am thinking that you mean something else, can you explain a bit more.

Short answer - Yes

The format for the POI is four fields. Lon and Lat are the first two. Fields 3 & 4 can have 'almost' anything you want. Field 3 is the title and Field 4 is additional info.

Give a read at http://www.poi-factory.com/faq for lots of good info.

Poi without a zipcode

Thanks for the quick reply, I guess I'm not sure how to ask the proper question. I would like to add a specific campground to my unit but there are two different one's in the same Borrego Springs, CA zipcode and I'm trying to have the directions displayed to the specific one I want. Perhaps having the Lat and longitude is not really the answer but when trying to track down all the info on the campground, I was able to find only one zip that both campgrounds use though they are 20 miles apart and can be accessed from very different entrances to the area. l&l info was listed for each so I thought perhaps I could create a poi with them. Don't have a clue how to do it.
Thanks again,
I'm very new to this and not very well versed on this stuff yet.

Poi without a zipcode

Thanks,
will check it out!

GPSr does not use zipcode

Lat & Lon are the only method to specify a location for GPSr. Zipcode information is purely visual for the user.

One of two ways.

1. If you know the address, try using that as a location. (http://maps.google.com/)

2. If you have Google Earth and can locate it. Use the lat/lon to create an POI for that location. Make sure Google Earth is set to decimal for the lat/long.

Ok, is he trying to find it

Ok, is he trying to find it in the garmin POIs or is he trying to create a custom POI?

If the camp grounds are

If the camp grounds are under one zipcode, find the location (using your choice of program) and just add differnt Titles in column 3.

If you know the long and lat, you don't need any other info besides a name for the location in order to create a POI.

Thanks MM, That answers the

Thanks MM,
That answers the question, now I'm determined to learn how to do it.
Thanks to everyone for the info.

Gees, that was the answer?

Gees, that was the answer? I could have given it to you along time ago...lol. I wasn't sure what you meant.

To do it, all you need to do is open excel. The first column needs to be the long and the second needs to be the lat. The third, is for the name of the place. When you save it, where it says "save as type" and save it as a csv file. It is going to say that some features arent going to be compatible in a csv file, just click ok. Cause it is only talking about the worksheets, books, etc.
