estimated time of arrival

I have a StreetPilot c530
Is there anyway to disable the estimated time of arrival or to have it calculate traffic? Its really annoying when driving in the city to get estimated arrival time that is an hour off!
Thanks,
~n

i don't think so

I'd rather know how much time left or have the option to choose

It seems the calculations

It seems the calculations you are refering to may not be as simple to calculate as you would like.
The GPS is calculating based on normal conditions and what it feels the spped limit is on certain roads.

2720

I'm not familar with the c530, but on my 2720, the data shown on the map screen is completely configurable and optional.

.

It won't know what the traffic is without traffic information being inputted to it. But otherwise, it's not customizable.

When I had the c530, it

When I had the c530, it always did pretty good. When I ran into stoplight or was ahead of time, it adjusted. I don't think that it has ever been like an hour off while I was driving around just in the city.

The only time that it has been an hour off from the point of departure to the time I actually got there is when I travel long distances (6-8 hrs) and since I am a fast driver, it usually subtracts from the original time.

doesn't it adjust

doesn't it adjust automaticly.?
my zumo is quit accurate,
i was a hour off once , but i had forgotten I crossed the time zone.
I wish zumo would auto adjust for time zones.

Time zones

It would be nice but that's just way too many data points to keep track of.

I've found the arrival times on the whole to be pretty accurate, but then I don't do a lot of big-city driving either.

Clipping time

Besides, I love knowing how many minutes I've clipped off the travel.

ETA

On my Nuvi 650 It only displays ETA if you give it a destination, otherwise it gives your speed. All you need to do to know your speed is look at your speedometer. Having the ETA is great, if you see you're going to be late, you know that you need to floor it and start running people off the road.

I use the ETA as a guide. It adjusts as I'm traveling so I can see if I am running ahead or behind schedule. There is no way that the GPS could know ahead of time if you are stuck for an hour with an accident or other tie up ahead of you. It will constantly update your arrival time with the assumption that things are going to clear up from here on out.

My Nuvi 350 (from little

My Nuvi 350 (from little that I used of it) seemed to be right on the time of arrival. At one point I should of been at a certain time but I hit traffic. It changed the time and it was still right.

Amazing accuracy

My C630 is amazingly accurate in calculating times. If traffic is moving at normal speeds it is almost perfect in its estimations.

Travel Time

My 350 updates the ETA just as all of you have said yours does but im not sure if mine is a little slow or not. i feel that it should update more on your current speed also. like if your on a road that is supposed to be going 45 but you are only going 25 it seems it will still assume normal trafic patterns even if you have been going slow for 10 min.

ETA

I have a 2730 & a 7500 and they both seem to adjust for the speed I am driving.

So if I get stuck in traffic and lose 20 minutes, I have witnessed an adjustment in my ETA on the unit.

How would your GPSr know that the 25mph you are experiencing is going to continue for the rest of the road (or route)? I always check the ETA at the begining of my trip and, if it keeps increasing, I know that I am behind schedule and (depending upon road conditions) that I will probably continue to fall behind. I can then make my own estimates based upon my observances.

Estimated Time of Arrival

I just came back from a 2100 mile trip (10 days) through 4 states and the estimated time of arrival was helpful and pretty close to the actual arrival time. I recalculated each time I stopped or was delayed for some reason.
For me, it was a good tool for planning my time.

Yes, I agree, it does help

Yes, I agree, it does help with planning your time. It also helps with letting clients know a good eta.

ETA

When I take a trip, I preset my c330 and use the ETA to determine at what time I should leave. This works great for me when I have a scheduled meeting or start of an atheletic contest. My ETA adjusts as I travel just as others have stated.

definitely great for highway

definitely great for highway driving. the few traffic zones are made up by driving 5-10 miles above speed limit.
My point is that its not good for city driving. not only traffic is worse and no catch up time, but it doesn't calculate lights!

Is there anyway to change that it should just display time or nothing?

Not that I know of.

Not that I know of.

use ETA to see early or late

I do the exact same thing too. I use ETA (@ beginning of trip) to see whether I'm early or late.
