Free Map Update 2008 for Garmin ?

MapSource helps organize your maps and waypoints. It’s not a map update. Don’t get it confused with “City Navigator North America NT 2008” which is the latest map update.

I just installed the FREE Map Update 2008 city navigator North America NT. It found a street that was not in the old maps and also a city that was not there. I am going to give er a run for her money tomorrow. So Far so Good .... Love this GPSr ... it is a great business tool ... no more driving slow to find the next street and so far it has only been off once or twice in the mountains. So we will see if it is finding some of the new subdivisions also .. this is the time of year we do alot of erosion control work on the new subdivisions in California. Bill

How long did it take you to get your map update fromt he time you ordered it?

I ordered the update 09/10/07 and I recieved it on my birthday .... which is today LOL It took 24 Days.
So far I am pleased it has found a couple of addreses that the old maps did not have. Happy GPSering ... Bill *||:^}

New FREE is better but still no South ave ... which is the road from the biggest Truck stop on I-5 to 99E into Chico ... which means that the GPSr sends me through the middle of town instead of the A-9 route to Chico ... oh Well ... How do you make this thing go the right way.... to bad it will not learn from doing ... LOL Bill

I just recently purchased the C530, the model just below yours. I have a free update coming. I herd there has been issues with lack unit memory in some models. Were you able to install the whole program in your unit?

Were you promped to install just the 48 states or canadian region or did it allow you to run everything?

Install went great. However, I was not able to install all of Canada. I installed the 48 states and was able to install the part of Canada I was interested in. The Quebec and Monteal area. 530 had enough memory to hasndle this. I doubt if I will ever get to Alberta, British Columbia, etc. I live in Western Mass and have been to Quebec a couple of times. More than likely that will be all the Canada I see.

When you install you get a program "Map Install" that was loaded on my desktop. I was then able to open program and load my part of Canada. It will tell you how much memory you have left. Hope this helps.

If there is not enough memory in the unit, will it utlize unused space on a datacard for the remainder?

I have a 1 GB data card I keep in the unit for POI's. I use a very small part of it for that purpose.

I just got the update and it does have some new streets. just be aware that (at least in ny area of central NJ) anything that was built in the past year and a half isn't there yet. I guess I have to wait till next year for that.
