Map Update (lost street names)

I just updated my 330 to City Navigator 2008 North America. Now there are many streets in my area that lost their street names. A few major streets now show "CRXXX" instead of the street name. The names were there in the old map.

I have a E0mail out to Garmin but nothing yet. Do they come out with "patches" or free updates that you know of?

Thanks

Lost names

Not sure if this applies but the c330 - as noted in many posts - doesn't have the necessary storage capacity to handle the complete NT2008 update. For example, you can load the US, but not Canada and vice versa. I wonder if the size of the update has caused the street names you referenced to be lost as well, due to capacity or lack thereof.

As far as I am aware, your post is the first time someone has reported this type of problem. When you hear from them, please let us know what Gramin says about the problem and possible fix.

Garmin 765T...Is it about the destination, or is it about the journey?

Yeah, let us know, cause I

Yeah, let us know, cause I haven't heard about that either.....very interesting, but as LN said, it is probably cause the 330 can't hold the entire new map.

Yes, it will hold all the U.S. or Canada, Alaska, etc. This should have no bearing on whether it leaves out some streets and not others within a state. You'll probably find that this is a function of the update and probably not found on any update on any unit. To prove or dis-prove this theory. Give us an example of the missing streets so that those who have enough memory can tell us whether it is indeed the lack of memory on the c330 or a function of the update...

awesome idea!!!! Duh, why

awesome idea!!!! Duh, why didn't I think of that.

I can't believe an installer

I can't believe an installer can be that poorly written that it doesn't first check to ensure the device has the necessary capacity.

c330 2008 map update

I have just finished installing ALL of the Map Update 2008 City Navigator North America NT on my Garmin C330. Once I got my head around what was actually happening, I'd like to outline the procedure.

The 2008 CD installs a program called "MapInstall" on your computer to be used later. Don't forget.

-Your are asked to select between Canada (incl. Alaska & northern border states) OR lower 49 states (incl. Puerto Rico), which replaces the map info in the C330.

-Now then, I have tried BOTH, but which one you load depends on what size of SD card you have, or want to buy. I can tell you that if you load the US/Puerto Rico map, you can put ALL of Canada on a 512 mb SD card. If you load Canada/Alaska, you can get away with a 1-gig SD card, but I had a 2-gig.

-At any rate, after loading your map, you will go to the program "MapInstall". Do NOT put the SD card in your GPS, but make sure it's on & the USB cable attached. I have a Lexar USB SD card reader. When you start MapInstall, you will see both devices. Select the "Removable disk". You then have to select each state or province individually to 'create' your 'secondary' map. It's easier to zoom in a bit on the North American map. When your selection is done, you send the info to the SD card in the USB reader. This takes some time, about 45 minutes to an hour.

When it's finished, remove the SD card from the reader & install it in the slot of the GPS. That's all there is. You do NOT have to select either map. You end up with a seamless North American/Puerto Rico map just like before. You'd never know that you had changed anything. All your previous waypoints etc are there.

Like I said, I loaded Canada to the GPS, then the US to the SD card. I just selected my friend's place in Lake Worth Florida as a destination. I touched "Show Map" before Go! and voila, there it was, 2485.1 km away. I then removed the SD card and the mapping goes away. Stick it in & you're back in business. I don't know why I'd want to take it out from now on. I download the Florida waypoint from MapSource, so your POi's must be on the GPS proper.

Since I only have the Canadian map on the GPS itself, I've got room to store more POi's than this website can provide!

New Map North America 2008

Can you purchase this update and use it for two or more Garmin nuvi 350's. I have two units, my wife and I? Any thoughts, suggestions?

No, they are un-locked to a specific unit. Once installed, they are keyed to that unit. Sorry, you would have to purchase 2 updates. For more information you can do a search above, if you like...

update

Thank You, do you think this update is worth purchasing? or when was the last version 8 created prior to this New 2008 mapping software?

They come out about once a year. As to the worth, that's entirely up to you. Some people are saying it has lots of new roads, others say some are missing. You can go to Garmin's web-site to check it's worth to you by accessing the Map update sections where there is a link to see POI's, etc. in the latest version. POI's are still dated, as with any map, paper or electronic, keeping up with latest changes is a challenge...

You can get an idea of what streets are included in the 'City Navigator North America 2008' by going to:
http://www8.garmin.com/cartography/mapSource/citynav.jsp# then click on the City Navigator North America link under 'MapSource Map Viewer' in the upper right-hand corner of the page. You can then Pan, Zoom, and change the amount of detail to find the street you want.

Poi's are updated, but many will still be wrong. The lag period is quite long. That is why this site has become so popular...

wrong names

I am having a similar problem with it on my nav350. It keeps calling out the wrong street names at alot of locations.
