Another nOObie

Hi all, I'm new to the forums as well as GPS. I just ordered a Garmin C530 for work purposes (Tow Truck Driver). Ive been wanting one for awhile and found one on-line for 249.99 which I feel is a fairly good price for getting my feet wet. As I said, I got it for work, but after reading many posts on this forum its looks like it could also be a great hobby (just what I need, ANOTHER hobby)! Cant hardly wait until my new toy, errrr work tool gets here.

Welcome

Rugar:

I use mine for both work and play and it is great! I travel a lot for business so I take it along to find my way quickly and efficiently. I also use it for vacation. In fact I just got back from Hawaii and it was invaluable! Never got lost, never missed something we wanted to see.

I did learn a few lessons. Get a car charger cord and some type of mounting bracket for the rental car. My battery died a couple of times and the GPS sailed across the console a few times without a mount. A real pain in the neck.

Also, no matter which voice I picked they were all pretty bad at pronouncing the Hawaiian names of the streets! Pretty funny sometimes.

Welcome to the group and enjoy.

Stan

Officer I'm sorry I was going the wrong way on that one-way street but my GPS told me to turn left ... Oh, I'm still getting a ticket, okay then the GPS will see ya in court!

Congrats on the new purchase

I've got the C550 and love it. Some people use these only for directions, I keep mine on in the car at all times. Example. I was next town over from my house and there was a backup. I keyed in, route (to my home) and then hit re-route. It took me a way I never heard of and saved me a ton of time. People don't realize that these devices will save you on gas.

Thanks for the replies. I

Thanks for the replies. I just hope everyone doesn't get tired of all the nOObie questions I'm sure to have.

Not to worry, we were all new here at one time or another.

The only bad question is one that isn't asked.

Me? New?

I was never new. I was born with all the knowledge I'll ever need. I just wish I'd stop losing it as I get older!
