Name not showing on map

I'm trying to create my own POI files (for a C330). I'm using Excel and the location shows on the map, but not the NAME. My format looks like this:

Lat Lon NAME

each in a separate column. Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry, I meant Lon Lat NAME

FAQ

Have you read and compared your file with this?

Name not showing

Yes, I have read it and compared my POI file format with the one shown in the FAQ write up. The format is the same. Any other suggestions?

Thank You.

Are you expecting that the name will show up like a label for the POI location on your map? That's not going to happen. It doesn't work that way.

Name not showing on map

Thanks for your reply. Judging by your past posts you appear to know what you are talking about, so I accept your answer.

.

Names will show up on the map for Favorites but not for Custom POIs. If you have some Custom POIs that you really want the name to show up for, you can save them as Favorites.

The other option for Custom POIs to help identify them on the map is to load a custom icon. If you click on the Icons link at the top of the page, you will find lots of icons and information on how to load them with your POIs.

Maybe This Sample Will Help

While I too am new to all this, here is an actual sample of a POI I have uploaded to my Garmin 350 and the resulting display on the 350. Using the < br > in the Excel csv tells the Garmin to interpret the < br > as a carriage return.

EXCEL CSV FILE:
(column 1 - longitude) -80.988236
(column 2 - latitude) 34.972709
(column 3 - name) Denny's - Rock Hill
(column 4 - description)< br >2611 N. Cherry Rd< br >Rock Hill SC 29730< br >Ph: (803) 817-1816

GARMIN 350 DISPLAY:
Denny’s - Rock Hil

2611 N. Cherry Rd
Rock Hill SC 29730
Ph: (803) 817-1816

On the map itself, the location is displayed as "Denny's - Rock Hill."

Please note that the "< br >" tag does not contain any spaces. I had use spaces so they wouldn't be seen as HTML tages in this message.

Hope this helps.

I like rice. Rice is great if you're hungry and want 2,000 of something.

Thanks for the <br>

I was looking for a way to do that in a formula the other day but ended up using char(10) instead. Your way seems cleaner, I'm going try it.

URL encode it

Ralph, you can display html tags if you encode them. So use '&' followed by 'lt;' for '<' and 'gt;' for '>'. So you can actually display <br>

The Bartman: say thanks and talk later - just gotta love the nuvi 760 gadget

put the term "dialable" in the search box

but without the quotes...you'll find more than you want to know on the subject.

Instead of entering <br> manually with Excel, you can have
POI Verifier convert linebreaks automatically.

Do a search of Poi Factory for 'nuvi 350 <br>' and you'll find we found, and addressed this problem with Garmin, "way back when". That was the main reason I wrote POI Verifier.

That's great, but it works on Win-Doze computers, not my Mac.

Then see this 2/3/2007 'Pre-Poi Verifier' step-by-step procedure (along with the macro) on how to convert using Excel (I see you have Excel):
