Ok, I have a Samsung Blackjack and am on the verge of purchasing a navigation unit.
I am torn between the Garmin Nuvi 660, and the new TomTom GO 720. Both have similar features, but I do feel that the TomTom is actually a slightly better unit.
Anyway, a big concern for me here is pairing with my phone so I can obviously make/receive calls. Data would be nice too, but it seems that neither TomTom or Garmin list my phone as compatible. So my question is, has anyone been able to pair this phone with either of these units? Do you think I will be able to at least use it for calls, although Im sure the data features like traffic/weather and text messaging wont work. Any ideas?
Pairing Phones
My phone was not listed on my Nuvi 680 but it paired just fine. I would take your phone into a Best Buy or Circuit City and try to pair it with the 720 or 660 Nuvi there. Look at the comparisons here between the 2

I have a Nuvi 680 and really love it.
By the way, if you know of anyone wanting to purchase or sell Real Estate in the beautiful Central Florida area, I'm never too busy for your referrals Your Professional in Real Estate, Jerry Osser In Associa
Listed phones
My Blackberry also was not listed and connected just fine, including the address book. Maybe take your phone to a retailor and try pairing in the store. I doubt you will have problems though.
Garmin 660; Nintendo DS soft carry case, YM, rd1chaos, Blackberry PIN 30154995, way too many gadgets to list here.
Thanks

Thanks!
Still kinda torn between the two devices, but they both seem to have similar features. When it says the Nuvi includes traffic, what does that mean? That its free of charge?
Ill probly end up going with the TomTom because its cheaper and has the same features.
Check your carrier too
My phone has many blue tooth features but cingular has locked some of them down and they won't work at all. So also check your carrier to see what they do to the phone or you will read about the phone and then find out your carrier has screwed you over like I found out!
As mentioned
As mentioned above...definitely check out Bluetooth functionality at a Best Buy or Circuit City...That was going to be my suggestion.
My phone (Motorola Razr V3m)was listed, and it works beautifully with the Nuvi's Bluetooth (even displays the phone's address book and recent calls on the screen and passes the voice commands through the Bluetooth connection) I tried a friends phone recently that was not listed with my Nuvi 660 and it worked as well; though the voice command feature did not work. The Nuvi gives you the option of displaying a keypad on the screen to allow you to dial the phone.
The traffic feature on the Nuvi uses an "fm data" receiver built into the dc power adapter. If you're in a city where Clear Channel (a major owner of radio stations in the US) broadcasts traffic alerts, the receiver picks them up and allows the Nuvi to warn you of any traffic incidents ahead or on the route that you are on. There is a free trial period of 3 months (which I am on now) for the service. After that you have the option of purchasing a "traffic date subscribtion" through Clear Channel which costs $60 /year.
I've had my Nuvi 660 for about a week and I love it. I couln't recommend it more highly.

You may want to look at purchasing at Amazon. The prices there are much cheaper than brick and mortar stores. I noticed that the price difference in the Nuvi and the TomTom 720 at Amazon is not significant.
