I went to maptourist.org and got a 403 (forbidden) error. That could happen because their server is misconfigured or maybe they are blocking my IP or ISP for some reason? I went to their SourceForge page and it was in Russian. I went to isitdownrightnow and it confirms that the 403 error is affecting everyone, not just me

Could just be a problem with the server configuration. Or something else. Think I'll pass on them, this all seems a little sketchy. But maybe this is just a glitch and everything will be fine later?...

That is interesting. The link came from the first URL below. It lists a number of downloads.

The link works for me. It lists about 75 .zip files for various parts of the world. Only two files for the entire US. I'm hesitant to unzip one though, since the sight seems a bit wonky.

Yeah, the link to that specific garmin map url works for me (with a generic directory listing). I'm sorry, but the whole thing is just sketchy IMO. But I'm not interested in yet another flavor of OSM, which are alll based on the same dataset. I have drilled down on their source data (using the exact same files that those maps are based on) and I'm just not impressed. OSM is a noble effort and I applaud everyone who works on it. It's just not for me, as a map maker.

The data is a mess, just what you would expect from community based project where random people do stuff in non-standard ways. It's the ultimate "design by committee". I started making a big map from their data two years ago. After a week, I threw it all away because it's a mess "under the hood". I switched to the USGS National Map dataset, which also has issues but at least all the data has been processed in a consistent way.

But sure, if you want multiple flavors of OSM maps, then why not? Just make sure your virus checkers are up to date. And, according the that OSM wiki link they have Russian Language versions of their maps! Nothing really wrong with that, of course. I know the language (pretty rusty since I rarely use it) and am of Russian heritage. I love the Russian people and culture, was just listening to the opera "Eugene Onegin" last night, one of my favorites. But current events, sadly, make this all a bit more complicated. Just sayin'...
