Apple IOS 26 and iPad OS 26 are available for download.

Just updated my iPhone to IOS 18.7 and after the update finished, I got the option to upgrade to IOS 26. Doing that upgrade now.

Keep us posted

Keep us posted on the new “Liquid Glass” feature. Reviews by people who have done the update are quite mixed.

I really don’t notice much of a difference

I was expecting something more interesting than what I’ve got. The phone update is the biggest change I’ve noticed. Everything is all together although you can opt for the original look, if you want.

This is a Major Update

It's a major version update, which means you can expect it to take longer than usual before you can use your device again. That's because after it finishes installing and loading, you will be presented with several "introduction" screens, as well as nag screens asking you to enable settings to make Apple richer, which I'm all for, because heaven knows, they need the money. If you're in a hurry to send a text or get something else done soon, you might want to defer until you have some extra time.

My initial impression of the "Liquid Glass" feature is that it is "okay".
I'm guessing after a few weeks of experiencing it you will not even notice it.
I'm sort of in the 50/50 quadrant of how "exciting" and "useful" it is.
But that's my opinion.

Liquid Glass

I have the Liquid Glass feature but my ophthalmologist says it is due to a cataract!

Apple Maps were supposedly improved

However, after trying out the Apple map for an hour or so yesterday, I will stick with Google or Waze. Also, from the YouTube videos that I have seen, Carplay is supposed to have been improved. More widgets, that sort of thing, which I did not notice on the nav unit in my truck. I haven’t tried it in my car yet though. It does show the SiriusXM widget which it didn’t show before. The keyboard seems to be larger on my IPhone 12 mini. (I am a lover of the smaller phones. Don’t know what I will do when I have to upgrade.) One of my apps didn’t work yesterday but after contacting them yesterday, they had a new version of the app this morning. Works fine now. I am experiencing a little bit of lag in pulling up text messages but I expect that will get better in the next few days. The first three texts pop up right away but the rest of them will take a half second or so to load. Now, in order to preview this, I will have to hit a check mark, which is kind of odd. There is also a new paragraph button that has been added on the keyboard on this update. Kind of nice having that.

i hate liquid glass ...

I absolutely hate it. It's the worst appearance Apple has ever introduced. If there's a way to revert to the old appearance, I'd like to know how.

Try this…

And please report back on the result.

“To "disable" the Liquid Glass effect on an iPad running iPadOS 26, go to Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size and turn on the toggle for Reduce Transparency. This will remove the translucent, glass-like appearance and make menus and elements more opaque and easier to read.”

That setting has been around for years but by default it is OFF.

'Reduce Transparency' has been turned on due to previous updates and how I had to change that setting to accommodate at that time. I just don't care for the overall look and feel of Liquid Glass. There should be a setting for a 'classic look' but I probably should not hold my breath waiting for that.

[/rant that does no good]
