Hi everyone,
I've got my hands on a Garmn Nuvi 58LMT that I'd like to use as a GPS unit because of nostalgia. I tried to update maps version and it's stuck on version 4.60. Does anyone know if this device will not update to the 2026.20 version? Thank you in advance.
Suggestion
Version 4.60 sounds like the last software update for the Nuvi 58, not a map update version.
Suggest you check for an update of Garmin Express. I received an update to Version 7.26.0 this evening. Put a micro SD card in the Nuvi in case the Nuvi doesn't have enough storage space, and try to update the maps again.

Your GPS will update to
Your GPS will update to 2026.20, but if your current set of maps has junction views you will lose them upon doing the update. Geezer is correct in recommending you update Garmin Express. I don't know what the current firmware version for a 58LMT is, but updating Garmin Express will ensure you have everything up to date. Just be sure to have at least an 8GB MicroSD card inserted into the card slot prior to updating.

Was it a legal copy?

Don't know if "getting your hands on" went through legal channels. Years ago I had a Garmin stolen, reported it to Garmin, and they lock out the ability to upgrade etc.

Try a factory reset
On a device previously used, unless there is some compelling reason not to do so, I would suggest you do a factory reset. For the procedure see https://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webhelp/nuvi57-58-67-68/EN-U...
Adding and slightly modifying to what Strephon has said, I would suggest a 16 GB memory card formatted to FAT32. Strephon had recommended 8 GB minimum but I have had an occasional hickup with 8GB cards which are hard to find anyway. DON’T use a card larger than 32 GB.

Did you try the recommendation to use a microSD card?
What version of Windows is being used?
Laptop or desktop?
Two types of USB cables exist. One type is for charging only and the unit won;t be recognized. The other type is for both data and charging. Do you know what is being used.
The 58LMT is about 10 years old and should still be update capable. Check and see what map is surrently on the device.

Garmin Support
I think you'll have much better luck giving them a call instead of sending an email. 800-800-1020 or 888-442-7646, Monday through Friday, 7 to 7 central time. If they're busy the system can take your number and call you back (if you want). The system will also give you a reasonably good estimate of when you'll get the call back.
Calling them gives you the chance to describe the problem, clarify any questions the support staff may have, and discuss a solution, all in one session.

Did Iceron Do As You Recommended?
Did you try the recommendation to use a microSD card?
A MicroSD is mandatory, as the map is too large to fit on the internal storage.
I don't think he's done anything any of us suggested, because if he had this 58LMT would be updated by now.
