Hi everyone! I have a Magellan Roadmate 3030-LM and I would like to update the poi files as well as the map. I tried doing this through SmartGPSEco, which Magellan's instructs for older Roadmate devices, but the browser plugin would not install. My device is also older than three years so I don't think it would successfully download any updates from the website anyways, according to Magellan and several sources online.
That led me to open File Explorer and take a look at the files inside to see if there was anything I could do manually to update my Roadmate. In the E:Magellan drive I saw several files and folders, and the one that got my attention was a folder called MAPS (MAPS is not a subfolder of any other folder). I opened it and I saw 6 files in it; one is a USCAN_Traffic.trf file which I think is for identifying traffic lights and maybe signs, three are .poi files (AAA_TB_POI.poi, USCAN_POI.poi and USCAN_EXIT_POI.poi), another one is an NA_MX_BM.mgi file and I believe the main map file is a USCAN_DM.imi file.
I'm not really concerned about the AAA poi file or the traffic file, but I was wondering if there was a way to manually or through an app convert some of the .csv files on this website to .poi format and drag and drop them into the MAPS folder on my Roadmate to get new or updated points of interest. I read in this forum that in the Magellan device's internal memory poi files are stored in the .poi file format but on microSD cards they are stored in the .mgln format, so since I haven't found a way to convert .csv files into .poi files would converting .csv files into .mgln format and downloading them into a microSD card be my only option to get new and updated points of interest on my Roadmate? And would my device even read the files on the microSD card (it has a microSD slot)? I was also wondering if it is possible to find a map in the .imi file or convert one into the .imi file, then download into a microSD card and use it on my Magellan once the microSD card is in it. If it's possible, can the Magellan read more than one map file like Garmin devices can? My Roadmate currently has software version 4.92, and the map and poi files were updated in August 2015 but the image date is from August 2014. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
