Not hearing the alerts..

POILoader completed the install of .csv and .bmp for the chicken restaurant POI file I downloaded. I am certain. I can see the .bmp of the restaurant on my gps map. I also had a .wav file in the My POIs folder which matched the name of the .csv file. I have no reason to believe it was not downloaded. Sox.exe was in the same folder as POILoader.exe.
I still do not hear pings when driving toward the chicken restaurant. I am reading information on
poi-factory.com/node/6764
and I understand that I must be at the specified distance (8000 ft in my case) and on the road that contains the alert. I have also tried being on Route mode as that includes the whole route as one road.
My volume on the DriveSmart 65 is up high enough. I have Spoken Traffic Alerts checked and I can verify that I have heard traffic light camera warnings on the route.
Ideas?
Suggestions
Settings for how your GPS controls POI proximity alerts might be separate from traffic alerts. Try this.
Select Settings > Driver Assistance > Proximity Alerts.
Audio
Sets the style of alert that plays when you approach proximity points.
Alerts
Sets the type of proximity points for which alerts are played.
If everything looks right but still doesn't work, try changing the settings and then changing them back.
Also, on the volume control screen select the additional settings (wrench icon) and see if there is something that might apply.
Old Geezer
Tried the suggestions under Driver Assistance..
I could not see a wrench icon in the Volume section though..
Dunkin Donuts
I had a Dunkin Donuts alert but it is no longer working. I get an error message when I try to sync it to my NUVI. I don't know what changed since I first added it.
It may be the POI file
As I think charlesd45 described in an earlier thread of yours, besides the POI distance alert you set, 8000 ft in this case, there's also the 30 meter issue, roughly 100 ft.

The issue is that if the creator of a POI file assigns POI points to be the actual building, rather than the roadway turnoff into the driveway, when the POI point is more than 30 meters from the center of the roadway you're on, there will be no alert.
There is one way to avoid this but it can result in a lot of false positive alerts.
Do you live near an interstate highway? The absolutely wonderful Rest Areas alert is set up with POI locations set to the exit ramps to rest areas rather than the rest areas' buildings. This is a great way to test if your device is playing custom audio alerts. I have my alerts set to 16,000 feet and get roughly a 3-mile advance alert that a rest area is coming up.

You could delve into the chicken restaurant file, pull the lat/long from the site you're trying to visit, put these coordinates in Google Maps, zoom in, then measure the distance from the POI location to the center of the roadway. Audio alerts will only work when this distance is less than 98 feet.
Could this be your issue?
If you're willing to deviate from your route up to a mile and a half or so, you could look into TourGuide POI FAQs here. A TourGuide could fix things...or you could manually change the lat/long of each POI chicken restaurant in the POI file to be closer to the roadway's center.
You could try this with your current setup. I think this will work although I've never tried it. Rather than driving by a chicken restaurant hoping to get an alert, select the restaurant as a destination and drive the route as your GPS gives instructions to the restaurant. When you turn into the driveway of the restaurant, you should see your custom icon appear and you should hear the custom audio alert.
Clear as mud, huh?
If you tell us which POI file you're using and which chicken restaurant location is not given an alert, one of us could look into this and report back to you.
New computer?
I had a Dunkin Donuts alert but it is no longer working. I get an error message when I try to sync it to my NUVI. I don't know what changed since I first added it.
If you're a Windows user who bought a new PC, did you remember to manually include sox.exe? This issue has bit many a member here in the past who had custom alert alerts in the past that no longer work.
This KFC has to be within 30 meters of the route...
This location is so close to the road. The chicken restaurant POI file is the KFC for America and Canada. I got it here.
I have tried setting the restaurant as a destination in simulation mode. No alert.
Maybe I will try the Rest Areas one just to know that custom alerts do indeed work.
sox.exe
yes, I downloaded sox.exe.
Rest Area alerts work
I don't know if you saw my other thread but thanks for recommending the Rest Area POI file. Now I can at least be certain that my Drivesmart is capable of playing alerts!!
