Can someone explain map updates?

I have a nuvi350 and would like to update the maps. Just what is the process involved? What is the lock code? Do I need special software? Is it possible? As you can tell I've never done this and am just wondering about the process. Thanks from the new guy.

I just updated my c330, so am not sure this will help, but it would seem it would be a similar process. Placed the dvd in the drive, and Garmin logo came up and had instructions to hook up my gps via USB cable. Had to check "I agree" to the legalese, advised me to close all other running programs. Asked me (since I have a c330 with less memory than you?) if I wanted Canada and the upper states (along the Canada border) or the lower 48. After selecting which I wanted I sat back and waited. Mine took 50 minutes from start to finish, others seem to take longer depending on model you have, etc. Easy and painless (except the waiting), hope this helps...

Hi new guy here. I'm

Hi new guy here. I'm updating my nuvi 350 as i reply to your question/comment.I just recieved the updated maps Thanks to this POI Factory web site (seems like garmin don't really tell you that new maps are availble). They send you a map update on a dvd and it comes with a unlock code in the back. they added 47 updated cities and something about new street developments and over 6 million miles of road coverage oh and over 6 million points of intrest. I want to thank you guys for all the fine posts and BEST telephone customer service i've ever had from POI FACTORY. it has helped me enjoy my NUVI even more.

1 problem though for you nuvis..... have you noticed that if you do the free UPGRADE from the garmin site, it seems like after you do it, the nuvi takes a LONGER time to find the satilite signal then when it first came out the box. I'm on my second nuvi 350 the first one i had it for 2 months did the free upgrade (not to be confused with the map upgrade) it kept taking longer and longer to find the signal till it finally never ever found it. Luckly i bought it with the service plan from best buy and when i contacted garmin they told me send it back to them and just sit and wait. Well my 3rd sense kicked in and i took it back to best buy and they gave me a new one sealed in the box on the spot. ahhh no waiting from the mailman. but i did do the upgrade again and it takes longer then usuall to lock a signal. I'll see what happens when it finishes updating the maps.

ps i got the free update maps, because best buy gave me a new exchange receipt when i returned the nuvi. garmin acepted it from me to qualify for the free map updates. mind you the the new maps were not out when i bought the first one, and i don't think i would've qualify for the free maps.

I have heard on here several

I have heard on here several times, that after the upgrade, that it takes longer to lock the signal. I hope this isn't a bug. It may take time to acclimate (sp) to the new maps...just a dumb guess.

Thanks, seems simple enough

Thanks for the input.

Ya know I never tracked my new SLOW signal to the upgrade but now that you mention it, I too have had a much slower signal connection since I updated. When first purchased, the unit would lock on in less then, oh 15 seconds. Now it can take a good minute, on a good day. Oh well, bottom line is at least it does find me eventually.
