How to load a route onto a 3597

I want to create a route in Google maps and load it onto my 3597.
I have done this before on a different Nuvi and I have been struggling for DAYS to figure out how to do this on the 3597.
Can anyone tell me?

Is this for a Walking or Running Route?

I'm sorry for being thick headed here, but is this for a walking or running route, instead of a driving route?

I've been plotting my routes using Basecamp. I create a folder in Basecamp for my trip. I expand my map as much as practical and add beginning and end waypoints and let Basecamp plot a route. If I don't like the route I add waypoints, that will force the route the way that I want. I name the waypoints with something practical and put a number in front of the name so that I recall which waypoint is next.
I export the file as a GPX and then use Trip Planner on the GPS to create the route.

Maybe this seems complicated, but I also found the link that was offered was complicated. I have no understanding about erasing layers and my approach doesn't require that I know that.

I do miss Microsoft Streets and Trips for plotting a route, because it it allowed me to add preset rest stops, such as a 15 minute stop every 2 hours and start and end times for travelling. Made it so much easier to figure where I might want to stop for the night.

Hence the reason I said review the thread

Hence the reason I said review the early additions to the thread, which essentially mentions your method as being simpler.

I created a couple GPX files

I created a couple GPX files and loaded them into the GPX folder, But how do I view them. Maybe my previous Nuvi had a route button and this one does not. Whatever I did back then was easy.

Well

You should see them in trip Planner if they are valid .gpx files containing routes. Do a Where to, Trip Planner
