Yard Work

Now that my husband is unable to do yard work and work on the cars we are turning to paying people to do this for us. We have always been a fix it yourself family.
I was never aware that there are so many yard workers that don't want to work. You call them and they never show up!
Auto machinic is the same only they show up and don't want to work.
My old truck wouldn't start and we looked for a mobile mechanic. Finally I got one to come out for $50. He looked at it and said it was too much work for him. $50 waisted.
We finally had it towed to a local mechanic shop and they were fantastic.

Concert

Went to a Brad Paisley concert last night. It was in an open air venue. The concert was great but about 40 minutes in it started to rain. Some people jumped up and left but most of us just sat there in the rain and had a good time. It wasn't cold so why not enjoy the music we paid to hear?

It's been cool here in CA

Not complaining in the least bit...I personally like it. I dread the heat of summer coming around to bake us.

Not independent anymore

It's so hard to find you are not independent anymore.
Husband can't drive so when I had the 96 Dodge Ram 2500 towed to the shop that was ok. But when it was fixed and I needed to pick it up I had to call my daughter (who has two teenage girls and a teenage girl with down syndrome) to come take me so I could drive the truck home is was an bad feeling to be dependent on someone else.
She has so much on her plate as it is without worrying about us. Our son lives too far to call for pickups. About 1 hour away.
I just put Uber on my phone. A little afraid of it but hopefully it will be ok when I need to use it. Don't know if they pick up in the sticks but surely they do.
Hopefully it will be a while before I have to find out.
Just feeling so overwhelmed today!
Sorry for venting to all of you but don't want to let my family know.

I've gotten into my 70's now, and I'm also finding harder to rely my my offspring. They have lives, and one lives 300 miles away, and the other 50 miles, but has a demanding family.

I feel like I'm imposing, sometimes. But then again, I was alway there for them. That doesn't make it easier to call on them. So I know how you feel.

To a coworker's retirement

To a coworker's retirement party.

Funny, if his pattern holds true, he'll be back when the fishing season is over. Then, we'll probably have his welcome back party until the fishing season starts again.

Not Independent Anymore

Mary I can understand your thoughts, We are finding it harder to do things and not impose on someone. It has been hard for the wife after my last surgery. Hope things work out and know we are thinking about you.

Yes, feeling like I'm imposing. My daughter just wrote me a text and said to be sure and call her if I needed anything as my husband and I were always there for her and our son when they needed us no matter what.
It was nice of her but I still feel like I am imposing.

Picking up the kid from Yale....

many trips

to our Y only 1.5 miles from home, since the kid passed his test for the green band. Essentially, this opens him up to using the lap pool, which is open whenever the Y is open. Prior, he could only do family swim in the shallow water, which is only a total of 2, or a total of 4, hours per week. Useless lol

But, I get it, the real problem is a lack of lifeguards. They don't get $500k/yr like they do in LA.

Remember how they were saying need to put Baywatch, on paywatch?

Convention

Went to the Eagles convention in Altamonte Springs.

If you looked out your car window you might have seen me in the next car.smile

Grew up just a block off Robert's Cutoff and have never ventured much further. We are used to the heat.
Only had a swamp cooler growing up.
Didn't know about Central AC until I was married. If you don't know the difference it is ok but once you have Central AC you can't go back to a swamp cooler.

Going solo

Going for a solo excursion up the coast to the Monterey/Carmel area soon. One of my favorite places on earth, or anywhere else for that matter, lol.

Went there a couple of years ago with a neighbor, but ended up wishing I'd gone by myself instead. So this solo trip will be much more enjoyable for sure.

Hole In The Ground

A small, rustic campground that we like to go to sometimes has opened up again. It's been closed for the last couple of year. We're going to go spend a few nights there soon. Got to get a way. Our youngest and her daughter (also youngest of the grandkids) have been staying with us as "transitional housing" for the past 2 months. They will be moving out in early July but we need a break!
