Windows 11, version 22H2 is out.

Microsoft's first update to Windows 11 arrived right on schedule today, almost exactly a year after the initial release. https://www.zdnet.com/article/windows-11-version-22h2-what-t...

. Additionally, it has voice access which allows users to control their PC and author text by using their voice.

Do you folks like the new

Do you folks like the new task manager layout? I don't particularly care for it. The colors (light or dark scheme) don't look right.

Still on win10 1909 (18363.815). Probably be this winter's project to update to 11.

Win 11 Update

Just did it today and this is the version I have 22621.608

Unfortunately it has not

Unfortunately it has not arrived to my machines yet.

Have you tried going to settings, windows updates and then click check for updates to force the download?

Haven't installed it yet, but will. I have my feature updates to only automatically install way out in the future. This allows me to install it when I'm ready and when it's known to be stable, although I have to manually download it then install it.

Yes, I always try it every week on my all machines. Looks like they did not roll it out in Canada yet.

Nope...

Installed it and almost immediately went back to Windows 10. Until such time as they put back the ability to "ungroup" items on the taskbar this is a no go for me.

Check out. ExplorerPatcher is an Open Source portable executable that lets you customize the Windows 11 Start Menu, Taskbar, System Tray, File Explorer, and more. https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/explorerpatcher.htm...

^^ Explorer patch makes win11 tolerable. I also run the decrapifier script on new installs.

questions

I'm still on:

Edition Windows 10 Home
Version 21H2
Installed on ‎6/‎27/‎2020
OS build 19044.2075
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.4180.0

My understanding is Microsoft will continue support until October of 2025. I was resistant to upgrade to 10, now have the same apprehension in going to 11.

My questions.
How many of you switched to 11 from 10 and found programs that no longer would work?
How many have had a good experience with 11?

Is it really worth migrating to?

I mean if it ain't broke don't fix it right, which is why I'm still with 10. I'm also afraid my hardware might be on the lower end of being good enough to run 11 smoothly.

I installed Windows 11 right after the release and have been very happy with it. The only thing I have added is Open Shell to give me the look of the old windows. Have used Open Shell since Windows 10. More info here https://www.minitool.com/news/open-shell-windows-11.html . I am not a gamer so I can't speak on that. For every day use I see nothing that different then what I had on Windows 10 except maybe a little faster. Both HP combo printers work on 11 just like 10. You have the option to go back to 10 if you don't like it. Before you install 11 you will have to meet the requirements for installation. The learning curve is almost non existent. Bottom line you are getting a new Windows for free that hopefully will be around for a while.

Just what I have been looking for

I have W11 running on an old incompatible LT, but it seems to be running just fine. I had to change a couple of files to make that happen.

Now I can try out ExplorerPatcher and OpenShell and see if that makes W11 more usable for me.

Win 11 and me

I switched from 10 to 11 Home when Windows Update offered it, not by going through the hoops to download it before WU presented it. That gave me a bit of time to read the reviews from others leaving me to expect it to be an easy task. I did not do a clean install of Win 11 but did the OS update on my PC keeping my programs and data.

None of my older programs failed to work with Win 11.

I call it a good experience although, without Win11, I expect I'd be just as happy with continued use of Win 10.

Thanks to all who offered their experience.

I'll give it a little more

I'll give it a little more time before I install and let the bugs get worked out. Although a lot has been fixed after the re-release from when they pulled it back shortly after the original release. The early adopters are beta testers, knowingly or not.

My HP finally is offering me Windows 11

With all the stress I have had lately I don't think I am able to deal with the update and new Windows 11.
I will stay with Windows 10 a little longer till after the holidays.

I’m not ready yet…

Prior to making the move to Win 11, consider the content at https://www.askwoody.com/newsletter/free-edition-is-it-time-.... There still are some downsides. In contrast, although updates to Win 10 may be few and far between, it is stable and reliable and will be supported for a few more years.

As of now, all computers in my house capable of running Windows 11 are doing so. The two devices that can't (a 2010-era netbook and a Chromebook competitor running Win 10) are running Linux Mint.

I just now had the nerve and energy to upgrade my Windows 10 to Windows 11 22H2.
So far I can't find any thing different but I just now finished updating.
At least my computer didn't die from it.

2023-06 Cumulative Update Preview for Windows 11 Version 22H2

After installing 2023-06 Cumulative Update Preview for Windows 11 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5027303) my HP PC would not recognize my Nuvi 855 or my Nuvi 3497.

I had to back out the update for my PC to communicate with my Nuvis.

I don’t do “previews”

This one of the reason why I don’t do any updates described with the word “preview”. I feel all to often those who accomplish these updates have future issues. I am not paid by Microsoft to be their test platform.

Not sure what the problem could be. I did the download when it first came out. Since then I have update my custom POI'S with POILoader and ran Garmin Express with no problems . Running a HP laptop
