Keeping The Windmill Alive – May, 2022

Perhaps you can post on a new book you're reading, a new hobby you're taking up or about random finds as you finally get around to cleaning out the..., or your most recent adventure?

Anything to keep your windmill alive.

Please keep comments polite.

This thread will be closed on the last day of the month and a new one will be opened.

Books Vs. Movies

After reading the Harry Potter Series, True Grit and James Herriot's All things Great and Small, I find the movie and TV series and movies to be okay but not up to the books.
(Okay, the original True Grit(1969) was close!)

Happy Sunday

Looking forward to another week on the road.

Back in NC

Black Mountain, Montreat, and Asheville.

rain!

Had a surprise severe thunderstorm last night here in north central Texas. We've been very dry since last fall, so getting 1 inch of rain was awesome.

$120 to fill my gas tank

Think I'll spend a little more time at home for a while.

Been reading a book written by…

..Charles Kuralt from CBS back in the 1970’s. Interesting read. He went around the US talking to people from all walks of life. From a county in Texas that had the smallest population of any county in the country to the man that had created the world’s largest ball of twine to a town that had only one parking meter. (It wasn’t because they needed one, it’s because they wanted one.) It was a slower pace of life back then. Wish it was that way today.

My daughter in law was filling her suv and at $125 the pump stopped. There is a limit on how much you can spend. I don't know if it is only that station or Dallas or all stations.

That's the limit that the credit card clearing house has set for that vendor. I used to run into that on my motor home all the time when filling at the car pumps.

To Moo-ve or Not to Moo-ve

A well-known Columbus, GA landmark could be moo-ving to a new location.

Kadie the Cow, formerly the trademark of the now-closed Kinnett's Dairy, currently sits on a hill overlooking Manchester Expressway near the northern entrance to the city.

Uptown (downtown) Columbus is hoping to moo-ve the 20-foot art piece to Uptown. They would like to place it near a splash pad area on Bay Avenue.

The city has raised questions about the moo-ve since Uptown Columbus already has several art installations while the northern area of the city does not.

When I know more, you will know more.

went to

a bbq in north NJ...then got new tires on Sunday. The reason it's noteworthy is it tends to be a once in 5 years or longer, event!

btw

didn't want to start a new thread, at the bbq, our relatives had a brand new Weber grill, really beautiful, I think it's a 445 or something.

The thing leaked and they lost all the propane. In inspecting it, it's the hose to the tank. Tightened as much as it can go, it leaked.

Because I never thought of this before, and never had a leak, truly not sure why by looking at it. The tank side had an o-ring, not sure if the hose collar is missing something...

Very disappointing as that's a super sweet grill that I'll never own. The same relatives gave me their Char Broil for free and it works great!

Alaska

Just returned from a 12 day Alaska cruise. First cruise for us since COVID hit and the industry shut down. It was great. The first few days were cold and a bit rainy and the upper decks weren't very nice to visit. However, when we got to Glacier Bay, the day was gorgeous and the weather stayed that way for the next couple of days as we visited Yakutat Bay and Endicott Arm. It was a wonderful trip. We have Canadian friends we've cruised with a couple of times before and they were on this cruise as well. Really great people. A wonderful trip but, as always, it's good to be home.

950 Mile Round Trip

Round trip Murrells Inlet, SC to northern VA and DC. Friday departure went smoothly until Fredericksburg VA then 10 MPH until Occaquan. The Garmin came in handy as we went to a wedding in downtown DC which I hadn't visited in nearly 10 years. Trip back on Monday was very smooth with only a single 5 minute delay. Done traveling for awhile except for local trips.
