Garmin City Navigator update schedule

Is anyone aware of a published update schedule for Garmin City Navigator maps? I'll be wanting the latest version of the 010-10691-00 Europe U.K. & Ireland Micro SD or Download.

Thanks!

Every single member here

Every single member here would like to get the info, also. Unfortunately, We know it when it actually comes out. Sometimes there are indicators, but mostly not. Someone,(Sussamb) usually, will post that the European update is out and the US version will follow very soon.

Just have to sit back and wait. Good things come to those who wait!

Confused

Is this "City Navigator maps" English terminology of what we, on the west side of the ocean, just call "maps".
Does Garmin have specific "City" maps in Europe?

Thanks!

I appreciate the reply, Frank. I'll just sit tight until it's time to load the Garmin for the next trip then get the update then.

Your right in that Sussamb is reliable to let us know if an update releases.

City Navigator is a brand name

Garmin brand maps for their GPS systems are called City Navigator. Always struck me as a bit odd because they cover the entire area, rural or city. See here for an example: https://www.garmin.com/en-US/c/road-maps/

122 day interval

Since there seem to be three updates per year then they will occur with something like a 122 day interval.

If

my memory serves me right in around 2002 or 2003 or so if you wanted to buy a newer map for your Nuvi 350, you bought a “City Navigator” on a CD in North America.

True

And it was true for my first nuvi, a 750, in 2008 or thereabouts, that you could buy a one-time City Navigator North American Update disk or at some point, a "lifetime" update subscription hoping that you had a "super-fast" 56k modem.

Much of that was due to technology

Maps were supplied on CD's due to technology limitations. Although maps were much smaller than today, the bandwidth available also was much less than it is today. Remember dial-up? Also, CD's were quite popular. Even laptops had them built in or a modular bay was used. Today few laptops have an internal CD drive; heck even new cars don't have a CD player!

Take a look at your downloaded maps, last update for example, they are still called City Navigator.

I stand corrected

Never paid attention to the actual name, just assumed they were called North American "maps".

Funny

I thought this was an April Fools joke.

The GPSs had (no surprise here) serious limits. My last century GPS III+ had a minimal (by todays standards) base map and 1.44 MB (the same as the original floppy drive that didn't flex) to load local maps. You could load a county or maybe two from the CD to the GPS.

I had to use an external dvd

I had to use an external dvd drive recently to load 4 dvd's worth of backup images to restore a failed hd. That was tedious and painful. Images were from about 5 years ago.

Today I refuse to make any images on optical media. Flash drives (if fast enough) or better yet external hd/ssd only. Or for fresh installs do it right over the network.

So is this

the "waiting for the next map update" thread we usually get after the previous map update was released? smile

Well

Well, although the number of cars is decreasing each year, there are still new cars available, some Ford & Toyota models for example that are offered with a CD player.
