2022 Map Update: Locked

So I just updated my Nuvi 2598, as I've done before many times without a hitch. Today, the Garmin Express installer finished, saying I'm Up to Date, but it also said an error occurred while installing. I had installed the map on both the computer and the 2598, so I opened Basecamp. It had a message stating that 2022.2 needed to be unlocked. Hmm...that's new. I clicked ok, and sure enough, 2022.2 is there, and it shows a Locked status. No detail visible with that map selected.

So what happened? And how do I fix it? As I said, everything has always gone smoothly over many updates. Anybody else experience this?
Appreciate any help with this.

P.S. I checked the 2598 itself, and it is using 2022.2. It also appears to have the necessary detail showing, and does NOT indicate the map is locked.

Thanks.

What version of Garmin Express are you using?

Garmin Express 7.7.0.0
Fixed an issue with maps being locked in BaseCamp after a user installs maps to the computer.

After installing the latest Garmin Express. Re-install the maps just to your computer

Interestingly, I had just gone through the GE update to 7.7.0.0. It had just restarted prior to the download. Hmm...

Well that was the ticket,

Well that was the ticket, charlesd45! Worked perfectly. Thanks to you and Seapup for the great (and timely!) help on this!

All OK

Took 35 minutes for the 3597.

Now to tackle the 660.

Good to hear you're up and running Reddawgg...

I use Basecamp weekly so I know I'd be miffed if my latest maps were locked. smile

Indeed!

Same problem!

I'm having the exact same problem!
I checked and installed the latest version of Garmin Express (now 7.7.1.0) before starting. The maps seemed to download fine to both my 590 and my newer Zumo XT. However I also received the same error notice when attempting to download the maps to Basecamp. And upon opening in BaseCamp it needed unlock codes. After several attempts of attempting to install to my PC it would not install. I also deleted the previous install of map v2022.2 before attempting a new download.
I think I will have my marathon wait with Garmin support unless you guys have a better idea...? -JEP-

Remove Garmin Express and Garmin Maps completely from your computer. I use IObit Uninstaller. Once removed ,do a fresh install of Garmin Express. https://www.garmin.com/en-US/software/express/windows/ . Once completed, run Garmin Express and select install maps to computer only.

I have the latest Garmin Express installed and my maps show unlocked.

FIXED!

Thanks for the suggestion. I reinstalled both Garmin Express and the new map files and still had the problem. I called Garmin support on Monday and they too had me do the same thing again. Still no luck getting it to work. Long story short it seemed to be an internet feed rate on my end....don't know why as it never happened before. Regardless, per Garmin, it was a map activation file that should take only 20 seconds to run that was hanging up. What it took was NOT deleting the previously uploaded map file (2022.20) and simply re-installing the files again. It seemed to pick up where it previously failed to load. I tried this on two computers and that's what it took both times. -JEP-

Same problem, but fixed

I usually leave the last two mapfiles on the computer but somehow I must have uninstalled v.2022.10 and BaseCam or MapSource came up with a locked file for v.2022.20

Redownloading v.2022.20 to the computer fixed it.

If you are running Windows, disable automatic updates. I have had some PC’s slow to a crawl once Windows takes over.
