Garmin Nuvi 50

After doing the most recent updates to my Garmins, I noticed that my Garmin Nuvi 50 will no longer find POIs near Phoenix, which we are traveling to tonight.

maybe a microSD card is needed

This latest update bumped the file sizes high eneough that I was prompted to use a microSD card, which I had.

Most Garmins need a card when the map and associated files exceed 2 GB. You can use a microSD card, 16 GB or 32 GB, the 32 GB being about $7 at Best Buy. Don't go larger than 32 GB or smaller than about 8 GB (which I doubt you can find anymore). If possible format it to FAT32 or in the device if prompted.

displays 50 nearest custom pOIs

When you check the custom POIs, the Garmin GPS only displays the 50 nearest POIs to the current location. The others are still there, but they will not display until you get nearer to Phoenix.

Questions

Just to be safe, give us some more info, Jim1348.

In your Nuvi 50, what map is offered and checked in myMaps? If you aren't using an SD card and maybe even if you are, you may only have installed a regional map rather than The Lower 48 states and if a regional map, the nuvi 50 may be missing all of the SW USA. (The nuvi 50 never was offered with a full North America map from what I can tell.)

When you say "will no longer find POIs," do you mean Custom POIs loaded with POILoader or are you referring to built-in POIs from Garmin?

Fast check of POIS other locations.

To make a quick check of POIS near Phoenix. Use Garmin FAQ. Searching for POIs near a Different Location on an Automotive Device.
