BaseCamp Mac 4.8.10 Does Not Get Along with Big Sur

BaseCamp is unusable since I updated from Catalina to Big Sur. I'm getting the spinning color wheel almost all the time.

Anybody else have any experiences like this?

Advice?

Tried reloading BaseCamp, no joy.

Yep

Widely reported on the Garmin forum and was the same with the Big Sur Beta. Garmin are apparently aware and are planning an update.

Apparently if you switch from 2D to 3D view it works, so the issue is with 2D view.

3D Is Okay

I can also confirm that 3D allows BaseCamp to work.

The trick was getting to 3D.

The trick was getting to 3D. AS soon as you start BC click View>3D before it goes wonky.

Genuine Fix For BaseCamp for Mac

I hope Garmin actually fixes this and does not say this is the way they intended it to be, like another problem that has been going on for years.

Surprising

Surprising that something like this would happen. I can always tell when an operating system update is going to happen by the number of apps that are being revised. All these apps are getting revised in anticipation of a new OS and they need to make sure the apps are com pitiable. Happens all the time. And it happens this way because of all the beta dev and testing going on before the known new OS release.

BaseCamp Mac 4.8.10 was released Sept 28.

Express Too

Lots of folks also reporting that Garmin Express is not working with Big Sur. GE appears to be working for me. It might just look like it's working.

Forums going back several months show people reporting problems with BaseCamp and Garmin Express while trying to run on Big Sur Beta.

BaseCamp Mac Not Revised for Big Sur

The latest version 4.8.10, and any other previous release does not mention being revised for compatibility with Big Sur.

How Long?

Anybody wanna guess how long it will take Garmin to fix this?

Thanks

I will wait before I try Big Sur.

Signs of Life

Garmin has been posting on their forums that they are aware and looking into it.

Not Encouraging

The Garmin forums keep locking down threads discussing BaseCamp Mac not working on Big Sur.

I'd feel much better if they kept a thread open to allow folks to comment with findings that might help with the solution, and Garmin can keep the customers informed as to a remedy.

Perhaps Garmin needs to let users beta potential new releases to prevent this sort of thing from happening.

Well

The issue is folks not reading the threads already at the top and opening new ones, which just confuses things, so some, not all, have been locked.

Big Sur sure make it hard

Thanks for the suggestions of 3D. Somehow I got there. How? Big Sur has shaken up some Apple functions also. I am hanging on to Catalina on my MacBook Pro, because at least the Devil I know...

No

People are starting threads to get some sort of response from Garmin, CONSTRUCTIVE response from Garmin. Garmin was just shutting down threads, referring to a useless thread. If the useless thread was not useless, people would not be opening new threads looking for answers.

With a big issue such as this, potentially affecting millions of customers, Garmin needs to be attentive and responsive.

Yeah, how many of us saw the malfunction and said, "Hey, no problem, it'll work if I go to 3D mode"
