Garmin outage is traffic still working?

Garmin's network today is down due to a ransomware attack is the traffic service still working?

Depends

It depends on the device but in most cases I don't think the Garmin outage affects the traffic.

Some nuvi models come with a “traffic cable,” or are traffic cable compatible with the cable sold separately. This cable, in addition to supplying power from the 12V power outlet in your car has a built in FM traffic radio receiver. Usually this type of cable has a rectangular lump in it that is the receiver. The receiver gets an encoded signal on an FM band allocated for the specific purpose of transmitting traffic data. The signal is then processed by the nuvi and then shows the traffic data on the map.

Some nuvi models have the traffic antenna built into the GPS, my 2689 for instance. Hence the lump isn't in the cable.

There are also some models that pair with a phone and derive traffic data in that manner.

I have noticed connection

I have noticed connection issues with Garmin server in Garmin Express few days ago but today it is giving very different message:"Sorry Garmin Express servers are experiencing outage today. We are working to get them back online as soon as possible".

Traffic

I have a 3597 with a traffic receiver in the power cable and also use SmartLink. SmartLink doesn't connect. If I go to "My Account" in the SmartLink app it says "No available products. No Data Connection Cannot connect to server at this time" SmartLink Weather does not connect either. Traffic is however available from the "in-cable" traffic receiver.

Someone correct me if I'm

Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Garmin's troubles shouldn't affect that, since it's a entirely separate service pushed through local FM transmitters.

Traffic

I believe you are correct. My traffic is now working. It is a separate system.
